Will we be missing out if we ditch formal night?

Hi,
Hubby and I are tired of stressing about clothes for our cruise next month! We don't have any formalwear and were planning on purchasing some just for this trip. I own church-type dresses but nothing really fancy, and hubby wears shirts and ties, but not a suit. I doubt we would ever wear it again though, so it would be a waste of $$ that we would rather spend on the trip. If we just stayed in our room and ordered room service or something, would we be missing out on a neat experience? Thanks,
Bonnie

Don't miss formal night. If you wear just what you described you will be fine. There are no clothes police. I remember our first cruise and this young couple came into Luminaires. They could not have been much over 19 and you could tell they did not have a lot materially. She had a little cotton dress and he had slacks and cordiroy sport coat you could tell he borrowed. They were so nervous but they were in so in love. The wait staff seated them and they had a ball.
Don't waste money on somthing you will never use again. Use the money to buy a photo of you two having the time of your lifes on formal night.
Have a great cruise and quit worrying, "The Mouse Is In Charge".

My husband and I also skipped the formal night on our cruise last year. Our twin sons were not yet two and the thought of getting ourselves and them all dressed up was just too much to take on! We went to topsider's for dinner and it was fabulous! There were many other people there, the food was great. Also it was not a buffet for dinner. When you walk in you can view the selections as you are being seated. Our waiter was wonderful (of course!) and brought the boys out a whole plate of peas (since that is all they felt like eating) and entertained them a bit during our meal. I highly recommend this for anyone not wanting to attend formal night or for anyone who just wants to eat earlier or later than their dining time.

Renee and I have both been on a Disney Cruise and are going again. Next time on the same cruise. We both have different needs and Disney met them both. Don't you wish all companies could do the same.

There is way too much emphasis put on formal night! This will be our first Dis cruise and we will be busy having fun and making special memories with our family to worry about who is wearing what ;) Anyone who has been on a cruise will tell you ~ Dress in whatever your best may be, you will see a little of everything :D

Ruvidu, gotta love that Disney!!!

I agree, everyone has different needs and wants on a vacation and with Disney everyone is happy!! You could always bring clothes and decide on the cruise if you want to attend formal night or do something more casual. No matter what you do, you will have a great time! :D

My friend from New Mexico had great advice. We all went on a cruise that had a couple formal nights. Her attitude was very "New Mexico", just wear whatever you want and throw on a whole lotta silver jewelry. It worked for her and now I apply the same thing. Her husband is a high-powered lawyer, but "New Mexico" dresser too (black jacket from Salvation Army). Whatever you feel dressed up in should work. Least you own some dresses. I work in a lab and just ruin nice clothes, so I do not own decent let alone dressy!

On our cruise the dress for formal night varied. I wouldn't stress over it. If your husband does not wear a suit and you do not wear a gown you will NOT be out of place! I remember seeing a few men without ties- so your husband would be fine in a dress shirt and tie. The pictures we had made were very nice and we treasure them. Like someone else said there is no clothes police that are going to make you stay in your stateroom if you are not "properly dressed" (whatever that is!).

I would take what you have then decide that evening if you want to participate. It is your cruise and you don't have to join in on anything you don't want to -- there is always another option.

On our formal night there were two middle aged women in cut off "Daisy Duke"shorts sitting at a table across from us, so a church dress and a shirt and tie will be just fine! I wish I hadn't gotten so wrapped up in the whole thing- worried right up until the day we left about my dress being fancy enough. A lot of stress for nothing!
