DH and I have been members since 2007, never stayed in anything larger than a studio. We decided to splurge for one last summer trip at the end of this month and booked a one bedroom at OKW. Are we going to ever be able to go back to studios? ;)

Interesting question and I'll let you know this winter.

Our first DVC trip was a 1BR with everybody (DD20, DS18, DD3, DW & me) at BLT this past spring. Since the older ones are off at college, DW, DD3, and me will be staying in a studio at AKL for our first Christmas trip.

I guess it depends on how long you stay and how much you & your family can get on your nerves. :-)

NEVER! :) But then, I'm of the mindset that doesn't think a studio is a true timeshare/DVC experience. The whole point is to have a "home away from home", and for me just a studio bedroom doesn't do it. If my real home is 6000 sq ft, my "home away from home" shouldn't be less than 600.

All kidding aside though, I really think the studios are too much like a motel/hotel feel. I want to feel like I'm truly on vacation, and that means a Jacuzzi and king bed. I have those at home, and I want nothing less on vacation.

You will love the 1 Bdrm but the main allure to a 1 bdrm is the full kitchen. I usually book a few nights in a 1 bdrm and go get groceries then i will book 2 nights in a studio on the same trip and add dining to that ressie. No way am i paying for 6 or 7 nights of dining. I don't like the idea of having to be somewhere at a certain time, i'm on vacation.

The OKW 1 BR will certainly spoil you! It's the difference between being in a larger hotel room and a home.

We still sometimes use studios for shorter trips, or sometimes just to conserve points, but there is no question which we prefer!

No! OKW 1 bdrms are huge. And the tub is fabulous. :thumbsup2Oh and laundry...and the kitchen. DH and I are going on our first DVC trip and we're going without the kids this Oct.:cool1: Splurged on a 1 Bdrm at AKV the first 3 nights and then a studio at BWV to be close to F&W the last 2 nights. I'm sure it's going to feel so small after the 1 bdrm. Have a great trip!:goodvibes

In one word, NO.

We have been spoiled staying in 1 BRs. One year, we went during Easter week, and I booked a studio at SSR. We definitely noticed the difference, and have not been back to a studio since then. We also have not been back to SSR, because in DH's mind, SSR=small room

You probably won't want to go back to a studio. I know I don't.

I was the same way - we only have one child and when we bought in Dec 2006, she wasn't quite 2 yet - so we were fine with a studio.

Well, the last time we went, we had some extra points and we couldn't stay longer because of work schedules, so we got a one bedroom. WE LOVED IT.

Now, I want to add on more points, so that I can always get a one bedroom and since our daughter is in school now, we have to ahdere to school schedules where before we didn't - so I think we are going to eventually buy more points.

It is nice having the full kitchen, but we don't cook on vacation - but we stayed at Old Key West and the counter service restaurant only had outdoor seating - I don't like eating outside - so we got food and brought it to our room - it was so nice having the table and chairs and if we did have leftovers, we can put them in the refrigerator and heat it up later for a late night snack.

Also, I usually don't wash clothes on vacation unless we stay for a full week, then I might do one load - but I loved having the dryer to put wet bathing suits in.

I also loved having the extra space and the jacuzzi was nice, too. Another thing about the 1 bedroom we like versus a studio is that there are 2 TVs - one in the living room and one in the bedroom, so daughter can watch cartoons in the living room and husband can watch the news or whatever he wants to watch in the bedroom. I don't get a TV, but I'm not a TV person, I rather sit out on the balcony and enjoy the view.

Anyway, what I'm saying is that if you get spoiled easily like I do, then you won't want to go back to a studio, unless it is for a short trip like just 2 or 3 nights. For a full week, I would definitely want the 1 bedroom, which is why DVC is perfect for us - it suits the way we like to vacation.

We live under an hour away, and usually stay 3 nights. We thought we'd stay in a 1 bedroom instead of banking the extra points. I know this will significantly cut down our future trips if we don't go back to the studio, but they just look so much nicer. Two tv's will be nice, ds11 drives us nuts with cartoons. He also snores! LOL. The extra privacy will be nice.

I don't mind a studio when it is only my husband and me. However, I cannot do a studio if we have anyone else with us. It seems so much more relaxing when the kids/grandkids have a separate room to sleep in.

I'm worried about the samething. We will be taking our 1st trip home in September and we're starting off the first two days in a 1bdrm and then the rest of the week in a GV. I have NO clue how we're gonna be able to do a studio later on if we want LOL.

We, too, fell into the 1 bedroom or more expectations for our Disney experiences. One gets used to having a kitchen that is never used.

But just returning from a "Deluxe Studio" experience in a Marriott time share, a Disney Studio will be wonderful; more than two drawers in the room for our clothes, a table to sit at and write a few cards or to throw my daily accumulation of souvenirs onto, a balcony that doesn't require the chair to be moved to get close to the railing.

It is always good to experience things outside of Disney to regain the appreciation of the details that originally drew your attention to the King of time shares.

All that being said, I still want a 1 bedroom or more, but the next time we use a studio for a split stay or such, I wont feel like I'm in steerage.

We had a 1 bedroom this year, and it was nice. We didn't use the kitchen, but the washer & dryer were REALLY handy. I liked the king size bed, too.

But DS14 didn't like being in the living room all alone so he tended to plop in the middle of the king size bed to watch TV. One night DH and DS came back from the arcade and fell asleep on the pull-out couch. I woke up and thought they never came back! :scared1: Of course once I realized they were in the living room I just left them in there. ;)

Next year we are going back to a studio, but it's club level so it will be fine. We don't spend much time just hanging out in the room, so having the extra space was nice but we can definitely do without it.

And to be honest, that single bathroom sink was tricky for us. The double sink in the Jambo studio works a lot better! :thumbsup2

I have to agree with everyone here - once you enjoy the 1BR, you'll never want to go back to the studio. We would take a studio if that's all that was available during a specific time we wanted to be there, but not for any other reason.

You'll never go back and if you do it will be a little different pushing you right back to the 1BR. To me, the 1 and 2 BRs are what really seperates DVC from all the other WDW resorts.

When it is just DH and me, we are fine with a studio. I'd never consider more than just the two of us in a studio though. We also enjoy having a one bedroom. It depends on what I am trying to do with points. If I have points to use up, we'll be in larger accomodations. If I am hoarding points for a family visit where we need at least a two bedroom, then on other trips DH and I will "rough" it in a studio.

We especially don't mind the studio if we are staying at AKV in concierge.

Since it's mosting DH and I we don't mind staying in the studios even though I prefer a one bedroom. The main thing I like is the big jacuzzi tub and the full size refrigerator. We don't cook on vacation so the kitchen isn't a big deal. I would rather stay in a studio longer than a 1 BR for a shorter period of time.

When it's just the two of us, for 5 days or less a studio suits us just fine. Most of our vacations fall into that time frame. If we were going for more than a 1 week, then I think we would do a 1 bedroom.

PS. When I'm with DGFs and if there's 3 of us I go with a 1 bedroom.

Well, when I go solo, I do a studio... but when it is DD(23) and I, we get a 2 bedroom! How's that for spoiled! :lmao:

I love the studios but like many here, I've never stayed in one with more than 2 people. When we have the entire family, we're in a 2br or treehouse. This fall we'll be in a 1br for the first time at VWL and will have 3 people. I can't wait!:goodvibes
