Will Value/Mod Be A Letdown When We've Only Stayed Deluxe

If you know what to expect you will never be disappointed. I think the moderates look lovely (stayed at POFQ)

I prefer the deluxes but I know you can have a super holiday at a moderate just the same.

There is a noticable difference in the beds at the Deluxes than the Mods. We stayed at the Allstars one time on a great special $59.00 per night and I had 3 rooms booked. That was our first stay on property and I thought it was great. The lines were long for the buses and food court. I just thought that was how it was suppose to be. After staying at WL and AKL multiple times I can not go back to Allstars. We are now DVC owners and have stayed on the Boardwalk at BWV and BC and Yacht Club. There is not any comparision in the mattresses. We get a better nights sleep. I really think a trip is what you make it, but how are you sleeping has a lot to do with it. If money is not a real issue than stay at the Deluxe but if it is than do a Mod but not Value. Have a good trip. You sure don't want to hear your husband complain the whole time you are down there, I am one that would not pay rack for a Deluxe either. I have to have a code.

Have stayed at a mod and value once, forced and will gladly pay for the location, themeing and atmosphere of deluxes. Its our vacation, we have the money and enjoy splurging at Disney. Its a once in a life time vacation, thats turned into an every year deal since 1977 and we have paid our dues, have 2 married, grown, college graduated children. We enjoy kickimg back now and enjoying the good life and if that means paying alittle more for it through a Disney vacation, so be it. I don't degrade others who feel the mods and values are okay, go, enjoy your stay but don't begrudge others who are willing to pay for the added atmosphere of the deluxes.

I've only gone up from a moderate to deluxe and can't imagine going back down - I personally would be totally let down with anything but a deluxe property. Subpar locations, motel style exterior hallways with outdoor entrances, loud HVAC wall units, no balconies, double beds and much smaller rooms. Although the pools and food courts are fantastic, it's just not an option for me.

To me yes it would be. It's not the size of the room as much as bed size, amenties such as valet parking, more transportation options, expanded recreation, more restaurant options, and bell services.

We spend a good amount of time enjoying our resort, so all of this is important to us.

We do all three levels of resorts. We are always happy. If one wants to be let down then they will be let down. It is a personal choice.

Well said. We have had magic at values and disappointments at deluxes, but it's not a big deal. I can stay at POP and dine at the Califonia Grill. At the Beach Club, I miss having a food court for breakfast. When I pay $54 a night night AP rate for All-Stars knowing the Red Roof at home is $$ more, it will take a *LOT* of problems to ruin my day!

We have never stayed at a Deluxe but have done POR and POFQ. They are both really nice but just love POFQ. We have eaten at different restaurants at the Deluxe Resorts and probably still like POFQ better. It is so quiet and peaceful there and theming is great. Our kids loved the dragon slide and the food court takes about 30 seconds to walk to along with the bus stop being very close. We have a trip planned for Feb. after going in Sept. and to be cheaper we were going to try Pop. I'm very nervous about this but it is the only way I can justify another trip to Disney. We are really only in our rooms to sleep late at night and sometimes take about and hour rest break during the day. We never just take a day out to hang out at the Resort. We are not picky just like things clean so hopefully we will be ok. If I were you I would try POFQ I don't think you will be dissapointed. You may wait on the value resorts until you try the Moderates. We could afford the deluxes but like to do multiple trips every year and just cannot justify the huge price difference.

We just got home from CSR after a 6 night stay. We are dvc members, so we have only stayed at bwv and bcv since we joined in 2000. My dh was very reluctant to "slum it" after we've stayed in such nice places, but I think he was pleasantly surprised. While the resort itself doesn't compare in our opinions to the bw area hotels, we found it to be more than sufficient, and with our room located in Cabanas 9B, it was very convenient for the bus stop and food court and lobby. When we visited the bw area at night, though, I could tell dh missed staying there. All in all, I think he'd admit it wasn't a bad move. For one thing, I think he'll appreciate the deluxes more now that we've done a moderate recently. But, be warned....if you're husband DOESN'T act like he'll give in a little and give you a break if he doesn't like it as much as a deluxe, I do think you'll be sort of miserable having to defend your choice the whole trip. Good luck with your decision!

Yes, of course. The mods/values don't offer the service the Deluxe ones do. They'll deliver luggage to your room, but it won't be there in five minutes. Best to just haul it there yourself. Except for CSR (limited) there is no room service to speak of. You have to park your own car and walk to your room. You can't just ride an elevator down and walk across the lobby to get to a restaurant. Mods and Values have food courts (and CSR actually charges you to be assigned to a food court table) and sometimes you have to drive (or walk a long way, or wait for and ride the bus) to get to the food court.

I haven't noticed any difference in cleanliness between mods and deluxes. Nor have I noticed any difference in comfort of beds/pillows.

The staff in the deluxe hotels isn't any nicer than the mods or values, that's for sure.

Is it a major hardship? No. But are the Deluxes easier? Yeah.

Maybe I am misreading some of the comments, easy to do on Net forums, but I get the impression that some feel the difference is attitude.

Believe me for us it is not. We can not physically be comfortable in a double bed. Our attitude could be great, but our bodies would be miserable. I don't find sleeping on something smaller than what I have at home, comfortable.

I also want a sit down full service restaurant. I want interior corridors and I want valet parking, etc.

If your husband truly wants what a deluxe offers, irregardless of service, attitudes or pixie dust, he is not going to enjoy his vacation anywhere else.

The value and moderate resorts are great and service and cleaniness is on par with the deluxe. It truly is with us a difference in tangible amenities.

You have to decide how much that matters.

See now, this is my worry. I'm a big guy (big tall, folks - 6' 4"), and we sleep in a King-size at home. We've booked into a mod for the first time (POFQ), and I'm not sure how much I'm going to enjoy the bed. It won't ruin my holiday for me, but there *is* a reason we have a king at home - it's comfortable.

Other than that, POFQ looks great. We've only stayed at WL before, which we lovelovelove  , but I'm willing to give POFQ a try. If only my feet don't poke out the bottom of that bed!

IMO if you do a value or mod after deluxes you have to go in with the right mindset. We did and enjoyed the trip though I gotta tell you we missed the deluxes but wanted to give the others a try on a quick trip.

We missed:

Balcony - this is almost like another room for us as if one of us is up earlier or later than the other we can use this space to allow the others to sleep peacefully. It is also a little escape zone and if you are lucky depending on the resort a great view or fireworks veiwing location.

Vallet parking - not a big deal but still being able to just pull up and let the CMs take care of it is wonderful.

Indoor coridors - if it is raining you can get to the busses, vallet parking, shops, and restaurants without going out in the weather. Also just seems a little safer.

Sitdown restaurants - the ease of being able to have a nice dinner without the food court mess is a great option.

Bus drop off - this is normally closer at the parks from the others.

Pampered - On my vacation I just like to feel pampered. I work in a high stress environment and I'm in a full-time MBA program on top of it so when I vacation I want to feel relaxed and the deluxes do this for me.

Now if it was a value or no WDW then I'd take the value.

BTW - This trip we are trying a 2BDR DVC villa for the 1st time. Sometimes its fun to try things outside the comfort zone but I'd do it on a short trip to give it a try not for a week long vacation.

Good luck!

The moderates have what they call an extra long full (double) bed. So hopefully you will be fine with the length. It is a great resort.

Thanks Sammie. I've slept in double beds in other hotels before, natch, and I wouldn't say I enjoy it, but I get on OK. Be interesting to see what the 'extra long' beds are like though - I don't need width, just length, so they may be fine.

I know I'll be looking forward to getting back to my own bed though - but then I always do, no matter where I stay!

We were faced with the same issue this year. We started going in 1994. Our first trip was off-site, then we graduated to Value resorts, then moderate. Then, since 1999 we've been staying deluxe. However, this year finances were a little lean so we stayed at POR. I think I even started a thread asking the same question as you have.

Honestly, did I miss the deluxe resort experience? A bit. But, it was fine...we loved POR. We had to cut our trip very short due to a sick pet so it was a bad trip. This was in no way due to the fact that we stayed at a moderate vs a deluxe. You have to psych yourself up a little to know that you may miss your favorite deluxe (ours is the Poly) but we actually ended up liking POR a alot. We've now stayed at all of the moderates.

Now - we're going back in about 40 days for a real vacation - 8 nights at CSR so we're going moderate again. Our finances have picked up and we could afford a deluxe BUT we decided to save the $$ and stay moderate again. We haven't stayed at CSR since 1998. With the discounts being less and less (I remember the day when with a code we could get the YC/BC for $179 a night) we're thinking about staying moderate for some of our trips, and deluxe for some. We go on average 2x a year. It's just so expensive with the discounts being what they are.

In short, you'll be fine - you may miss your favorite resort but you'll have a great time. IF you stay moderate. I would NEVER stay value, I think that would push me over the edge.

We bounce back and forth from Mod to Deluxe but DH will never stay at a Value again.....

dh and i were deciding to save some money and go value, but after seeing the value room pics on this thread really changed my mind. people often say they are not in their rooms much anyway that is why they do values but we are in long enough to care. i think going deluxe is part of the vacation. wl here we come.

You can reserve a room with a king bed. I don't know if you need two, though...maybe for kids.
