Will US Virgin Mobile Android phone work in UK?

My wife is leaving for a month in th UK this Wednesday. She has an Android from Virgin Mobile USA and is wondering if it will work there. At the very least she wants to be able to connect in a WiFi hotspot and use Skype to call me. Virgin is actually a British company so perhaps you can pay for British service?

As long as its a tri band phone she should be fine & that it is set up to be used abroad Be warned though she may not get Virgin as the network over in the UK. I'm on Virgin network but whenever I go to other countries including the US I get other networks

So how much are roaming fees? She doesn't necessarily have to use the phone except when she wants to call me via Skype and if it's too much she can buy a throwaway local phone with a paid month of access.

I don't pay to roam, as far as i'm aware Virgin only charge when you use the phone. I just haqd to call to get them to set my phone up to use abroad.
