We are planning for August 2016 too! We stayed at OKW last year with the discount and free DDP - tbh, I think we have been spoiled by having such a great deal. I would definitely want to stay onsite again, so I wouldn't pick another place to stay BUT, I'm not sure I would pay for the dining plan if it wasn't part of the deal. Don't get me wrong, I loved having the dining plan and the meals were a great part of the holiday, however I'm not sure we could justify the price if we had to pay.

We're going 2015.

Plan is to rent points and stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge as it's our favourite.

But if the DDP and SSR/OKW deal comes up again I will price it up. DH wouldn't be best pleased not styaing at AKL but it'll come down to numbers.

I am not taking free dining into account at all. I will pick where we most want to stay(as long as its not stupidly expensive). Our plan at the moment is 1 week at Akl and 2 at a villa.
We won't be spending the whole 3 weeks onsite as the others want to do lots of none Disney things. I don't want to pay premium to stay at Disney while we are not spending as much time onsite..

We are leaving tomorrow for 11 nights at POR. We have gone every year since 2002. I think they have pushed us offsite finally. When I looked at what we paid for this trip....its crazy. We dont use ME, or EMH, so the advantage to onsite is gone. If we dont get FD, which I dont expect will be offered as abundantly as it has, if at all....our next trip will be offsite or seeing universals 40% current discount....maybe an entire different trip:scared1:

If we didn't have free ddp I think we would consider somewhere lovely offsite. We love onsite, but the excessive cost is weighed up against the free dining. If it was not on offer I think we would have to look elsewhere.

Simple answer is yes. Much as we love dining onsite, it makes no sense to pay through the nose for it.

We were too late to book the full free dining for this year and by the time we were ready this February only free QSDDP was being offered even at the deluxes. So without free dining, it's worked out so much cheaper to stay offsite and pay for what we want to eat, when we want to eat it.

Simple answer yes here as well. We have been very fortunate and been able to stay on site in a deluxe resort, but with no free dining we would possibly drop to a moderate, which IMO isn't the end if the world,I've done the CBR and loved it. Another option would maybe do Club Level at a deluxe or rent DVC points, but these are options that I've not researched much.
Looking at it sensibly I can't see many UK customers being able to afford a deluxe at rack rate plus paying for DDP also taking into account the ever rising flight prices, they will almost centainly have do something:confused3

No, I dont think we would.
Each time we come to plan and book our trip, we talk about going to a new hotel but we like the CR for the location.
I think we'd delay the holiday for a bit, just to save up rather than stay somewhere else. :)

we have stayed at Delux resorts but still by far our fav is POR. If it didn't come with FD then I would still stay there over anywhere else. I would def not pay op for the dining plan if it wasn't offered as tbh it wouldn't be worth our while as we find it far too much food anyway. The fact that its normally the free QSDP suits us perfectly as we tend to eat when we are ready and don't plan our holiday around our food.
We have stayed off resort before but just didn't like it, I like to be immersed in Disney as not bothered with US/IOA so much. If I couldn't afford to stay on resort then I would rather wait and save until I can.:)

The OP has a family of 6. This pretty much limits the choice as for the accomodation.
Unless you're willing to book 2 connecting room, you'll need to go for a suite or a villa.
I don't think there are moderates that sleep up to 6
POR can sleep up to 5 with the retractable bed. But, as said above, unless you book 2 rooms (which comes at a silly price) you'll need to go for a Deluxe

Alternately you could size it down to a Value with a suite at AoA (which is overpriced in my opinion for a value, even for a suite) but then you stand no chance of getting the FD

If you have to pay for the dining plan, don't even bother. You WILL end up paying less OOP, as the value of DDP has greatly decreased over the years.

With a party of 6, I would probably conclude that renting a Villa offsite could end up being a solution

We are also (semi) planning for 2016. We want to stay at AOA as my little one would love the theming and possibly a few days at AKL for my teen daughter as its her favourite. I know there's no chance if getting FD at AOA and I'll probably rent points for AKL to try and keep the price down. Ultimately it comes down to price and keeping the cost as low as possible so I will weight that up with any offers that are around when I book x

Hi yes we are looking at two rooms with 4 girls its a must for two bathrooms otherwise we would never b ready to go out :)

I don't see us staying anywhere other than on-site and dining plan or not we would probably stick with SSR because we love it there. Like a PP said, the OKW or SSR discount deal with the free dining plan is a great deal and we have got a little spoiled by doing it, but I don't think that free dining is a definitive factor for us.

I would never do a moderate again with the QSDP because I hated it. If it's not the full dining plan, I'm not interested!

The chances are Oct will be our last holiday to Florida anyway (because we're planning on moving there in the next 1 - 2 years) but for me, getting free dining is a great thing, but not something that I would base my decision on. The dining plan isn't a great deal (unless it is free!) anyway.

Can you tell me about the SSR and OKW deal and how you went about booking it. A friend of mine is looking to go 2014/2015 and I'm trying to help her plan as it's her 1st time. I've only ever stayed at The Yacht Club so they were easily booked via Virgin Holidays or another TA but when I looked on their website SSR and OKW aren't listed :confused3

We booked a 45% off discount plus free dining at SSR for August 2011, and got a 35% discount plus free dining at SSR for November 2013. We booked directly with Disney- I feel this is the best way to do it, and often the cheapest way. Book flights separately as it tends to be cheaper.

Us, we'd never stay at WDW without free dining. It is wonderful to have your meals paid for, and we love love love character meals but wouldn't want to pay the OOP price for them.

Check on the promotions page on the WDW UK site and hopefully the SSR and OKW promotion will come up again. Just a few weeks ago I saw they were offering 35% off SSR and OKW, and 30% off the BCV among other things. However no free dining. Some people have commented that Disney is stopping its promotions generally as travel has picked up. I really hope not- those people are Americans so surely WDW might still offer free dining to us in the UK?

Thank you :goodvibes

I just looked on the Disney website and put in a dummy booking for Easter 2014 and neither OKW or SSR were listed when I picked the hotel/villa and tickets option. When I selected them individually I got the message that there was no availability for those dates. Is Easter not a good time to get those accommodation options ? I was under the impression that they were huge as they are DVC resorts so I'm a bit surprised that there is availability at EVERY other Disney hotel but no OKW or SSR :confused3:confused3

I remember when I was doing dummy bookings, the OKW prices seemed to be released after all the other resorts. I worried about the 'no availability' but it soon appeared :)

This happened to us too. Within a month or two, availability popped up! :)

I don't think there are any OKW or SSR offers at the moment sadly. If there continues to be no availability it could be worth calling up and asking. :)
