Will this work? FL resident 4 day pass...

so by the same analogy, my brother lives in florida and he could gift me and my family tickets every year at the florida rate.
Could he also "gift" me a room at the florida rate?

When they asked me for valid ID, could I say "this was a gift from a florida resident"? Serious question.

Hey if this is acceptable please let me know because I have way to many relatives in Florida to keep paying Disneys full price.

Of course not! There is a big difference between a grandparent sharing the benefit with their grandchildren while traveling together and what you ask above.

If my mother wants to treat us to a Disney vacation and reserves 2 rooms for all of us to attend with her discount and she is paying for the vacation, then why should she have to pay a higher price? I would never take advantage of the discounts unless she is with us enjoying the benefits too.

and if you are under 18 and do not require florida identification have a lovely time :stir:

Hey I wasn't trying to stir the pot. I was dead serious. I took 4 kids to wdw a few weeks ago ( my kids from nj and my niece and nephew from Philly) My brother lives in florida, if you are telling me that I can get him to buy those tickets for a heck of a lot cheaper, I'm going to do it. Heck I'll take them as a early christmas gift.

We've got another trip in September,. Usually I go on points but if I can get my brother to book the room and buy the tickets for a florida resident discount then heck yeah I'll do it.

I did think it was cheating but if I can do it and say it was a gift from a brother, than that works great.

OP I would ask this question on the theme park board, but I think it is allowed by disney for a FL resident to purchase a FL resident ticket for a minor even if the child technically doesn't live in FL. Your SIL is vacationing with you and I think Disney would tell her to buy the FL resident tickets for the kids.

Disney's reasoning is that under 18 year olds often don't have state issued IDs, so instead of driving everyone crazy trying to prove their minor children live in FL, they just make it easy and created the rule that FL resident adults can purchase discounted tickets for any minor.

If you dont like the rule, tell Disney, but dont jump all over the OPs case for a legit question.

You're brother would need to be there, show Florida resident ID and guarantee the room with his credit card. He can't reserve the room and you show up without him.

Hey I definitely wasn't jumping on her and I'm praying really hard that you and Puumba are absolutely correct. Like I said, I've got a trip planned in September that I was going to pay OOP for, heck it will be worth it if I treat my brother to a night's stay and dinner.

if any thing my neice and nephew's tickets just got a hell of a lot cheaper.

I just always went with the allears.net general rule of "Florida Resident tickets are only available to actual Florida Residents and can not be purchased for out of state family or friends"

like I said I definitely was not trying to stir the pot. I had never heard of this "gifting".

Have you posted before under a different name then?

If I was trying to "cheat the system" I would have had her go ahead and buy them already. She suggested it to me to help save some money since they will be there with us. I am just afraid that it would be a problem which is why I am seeking advice, no need to attack me for asking a simple question! Now I know why I usually dont post on this forum

If there is a problem with a ticket at a Park Entry Point and you cannot show Resident ID the ticket(s) can be confiscated and cancelled.

Haha! If you treat me to a night I will do it!

I really have no idea about it but it does seem fishy to me. We are Florida residents so I have never had an issue. We are going in a few weeks though so I am curious on how closely they check on this. I do know that our resident discount was a pretty large savings for everything for us, making us able to stay in a moderate rather than a value and saved us about $300.

Very good point.

except for the fact that there is no ID required for a childs FL Resident Ticket.

I absolutely see no reason why this couldn't be done.

Let's say, the kids were coming to visit the SIL (by themselves) and SIL takes them to Disney ... what is she supposed to say "Oh sorry, they are from Idaho, not FL, so let me pay the higher price" ... no SIL is going to pay for the FL Resident tickets with no questions asked.

Any of the do-gooders on here who disagree are just blowing smoke!

Thank you for all of the advice!! And to everyone calling it immoral, how is a family member buying your child a gift immoral?:confused3

Here's a question- my inlaws moved down to Florida next month. I want to take my 9 year old niece to Disney with us in June. My Inlaws can't go because of work. They were going to purchase her an annual pass before we get there, so we can just enter the parks with her when we arrive. Am I going to have a problem? I will have a regular annual pass, because I am not a Florida resident.

i don't think anyone said buying a child a gift is immoral :confused3.
however, buying something that a child - or adult - is not qualified to use is where the ethical line gets fuzzy. knowingly using (or encouraging a child to use) said ticket makes that line pretty clear.
you might be able to circumvent the rule which explicitly states for "Fla residents" (or you might get caught); the real question is how much is one's honesty worth.
personally, i would just ask the family member to put the money on a WDW gift card, and buy the passes with it myself.

read, then reread, cheshire figment's post - he is incredibly knowledgeable about WDW passes :)

OP - I wouldn't do it, because...

...you're from New Jersey, and everyone (including the folks at WDW) knows that nearly everyone in N.J. either knows someone, or has a relative living in Florida. It's a fact of life in the Garden State/Sunshine State. Not meaning to sound nasty, but I am certain your in-laws aren't the first ones with this type idea.

Given New Jerseyans' uber-extreme fondness for everything WDW, I wouldn't be surprised if Disney has some sort of "secret safeguard" in-place to circumvent "unauthorized sales" of in-resident tickets/passes.

As crazy as this sounds, perhaps a cast member could nonchalantly ask your kid where their hometown is (for proof of residency)? Then what? Teach our kiddos to lie??

Taking it to the extreme, it is kind of like buying a child a gift of alcohol. You probably could get away with doing so, but you are breaking the rules by doing it. It is immoral to purchase someone something that they are not entitled to. And your kids are not Florida residents, so they are not entitled to that type of pass.

Right and wrong is not measured by if you can get away with doing something or not. Otherwise all those people who get away with shoplifting are really doing nothing wrong. Or kids that climb out of windows at night to go to parties are not doing anything wrong either, as long as they are not caught.

You have to be careful what you post in here. I think people just look for things to fight over. If you go to other Disney forums you will not be attacked like this. If it's a gift I don't see anything wrong with it and if some of these people had the same opportunity I'm sure most would take it.

OP ... My DD (now 14) has been spending the summers in FL, staying with my sister - who has been a FL resident since 2000, since she was 5. She (DD14) spends between 4 to 8 weeks in FL, and has for 10 years. When she has visited WDW with my sister, my SISTER purchased her ticket with her FL resident status. My daughter is not a FL resident, but she is a child, and under the care of my sister while she is in FL for the summer. When we go as a family (every few years), I purchase our tickets (2 adults, 2 children) from Undercovertourist via the Mousesavers link. My sister purchases her own ticket as a FL resident if she chooses to join us.

I consider myself a very moral individual regardless of any person on a message board, and am perfectly fine with my sister purchasing a ticket for my DD when they go together.

Do whatever you feel is right for you and for your family. You are the only person who you have to answer to. If you can live with your decisions, than enough said:goodvibes

TECHNICALLY, your brother could buy tickets for the kids (as disney does not require proof of residency for minors... MANY grandparents buy tickets for grandkids that do NOT live with them and do NOT even have the same last name but Disney does not bat an eye) but he couldn't buy tickets for adults. FL resident Adult tickets WILL have a name on them. And as far as the hotel, that would have to be booked in his name, so he would have to be on the reservation (which would require him to be there to check you in) and it would also put another adult on the ressie for all intents and purposes which would cost you more $ and could affect your occupancy limits. KWIM?

I assume a child entering with a Florida resident is not an issue
that was our experience when my inlaws (who were FL residents) bought FL resident AP's for our girls (back in 2008 or 2009) who were both minors at the time so no ID was required for the grandparents to buy them. All they asked for was the girls' names and birth dates. And my FiL showed his ID for proof of residency.
I now am eligible for PT FL residency so my younger DD who is still a minor, I can get her pass thru my info. Once she turns 18, I'll add her on so that she is also a PT resident. But minors don't require any proof at all. Everything is based off of the adult doing the purchasing.
