Will this hurt my credit?

With our current mortgage, they saw that I had no credit so they just ran everything in my husbands name with no problems. I'd rather not mess with credit and risk having another account to keep track of if I don't have to.

But would not be messing with credit, it is building credit. It's very important to have credit, there can come a time where you will need it, and you don't have any.

I totally get it but what happens if, god forbid, something happens to your husband? You will have zero credit and be up the proverbial creek. You should have some credit in your name.

It's much easier to keep on top of credit card balances and payments for with online banking and smartphone apps.
Most credit cards accept multiple played gents so you can even pay the charges as they post if you need that to keep track of budget. Often you can set up auto pay for payments also so you can at least be reasonably sure the minimum payment will be on time if you have trouble keeping track of when bills are do. You can usually set up text and email alerts for balances, statements and due date reminders.

I have had something similar happen. The credit card company was supposed to check and see if I had any pre approval offers and the lady went ahead and took the liberty of running my credit and getting me approved for a card that I did not want ( I was just checking around trying to see if anything better then what I had was available). It showed as an inquiry and also as a card that was "closed, paid as agreed, never late". I filed a complaint with the credit reporting agency's and the card company removed the listing and because it was done in error they also where able to get the inquiry removed.
If you have not applied for many ( or any) cards then one inquiry will have little to no effect on your credit.
