Will this be covered by warranty?

Ugh. Just had a great Father's Day morning with my husband. We ran a few errands, bought a frozen yogurt and were walking back to my car and a piece was missing from the front!

My car is an Acura RDX, it's a 2010 with low miles, less than 40,000. I bought the car as a low miles used vehicle at Carmax. I did buy the extended warranty, and it's still covered by the Acura warranty until 50,000 miles. My car is in beautiful condition, no dings, no accidents. I have NO idea how the piece disappeared or where it went.

I found this similar photo on photubucket. The piece that's missing is the silver piece above the grate with the Acura symbol on it. There is NO damage to the front end of my car, it wasn't hit causing the piece to fall off.

Will this be covered under warranty or will I have to shell out to get the piece replaced.

I tried to call my Acura place and of course, they're closed on Sunday.

The whole piece is gone?

Honestly, I cannot imagine that being covered under any warranty. My instinct tells me that would be cosmetic, not mechanical...and nearly all warranties will cover mechanical defects only...something that causes you to be unable to drive or use the car as intended.

Missing a cosmetic piece in the front won't affect the driveability of the car. Its like if a stone comes up and chips your paint. A warranty won't cover that.

I doubt its cover by the warrantee. A warrantee covers mechincal breakage. If you claim in on your auto insurance you would have to pay the deductible. I would look on ebay or a junk yard to see it you can get a replacement

But it would fall under the comprehensive (other than collision) deductible which normally is lower than the collision deductible. I doubt she would find this part in a junk yard.

Certainly not a warranty item, especially on a used car warranty.

I don't know what that part costs, but I sure hope it isn't enough for insurance to cover. If it is, either the part is too expensive or your deductable is too low.

UPDATE: It's $38 part.

That's good to know. I know my deductible is only 100 for comp. I just wasn't sure what that part was going to cost her. I remember several years ago people were stealing the Mercedes and Cadillac hood ornaments. Some people just suck.

You might want to consider boosting your deductable. In my case, boosting my comp deductable to $500 and collision deductable to $1,000 saves me enought money that as long as I don't have a claim more often than every 18 months, I am money ahead. Knock on wood, I've had 2 comp claims and 1 collision claim in 40 years.

Yep. This morning when we went out to run errands, I went through the car wash. I specifically looked at that part afterwards, to make sure that it was clean and bug free ( live in the south). It was there. After that we drove to my two BILs homes ( less than a few miles apart) to drop off gifts. We went to Target. We went for yogurt. Walking back to the car from the yogurt place, I looked at my car and was like "Huh? That doesn't look right?" Then I realized the problem.

I'd assume that if it fell off, I would have heard/felt it/run over it.

But I had no idea somebody would steal it.

I wouldn't assume you would have heard it fall off. Its probably plastic, and if you were driving with the windows closed and/or radio on, it would be tough to hear. If it fell just right, it may have been right in between the tires so no 'running over it'.

I lost a wheel cover to my new car years ago while driving. Never heard or saw it come off.
