Will they wrap desserts on free ddp?

Hi all -

We are going in August and are taking advantage of the free DDP. We are light eaters and often (in all restaurants) like to get our desserts wrapped to be eaten later at home (or in this case, in the room) after we digest some.

Does anyone think there will be objections to this, like they won't do it because we are trying to "game" the plan by carrying out food that we don't have the appetite to eat in one sitting?

Thanks in advance!
Jane

I can't imagine they wouldn't wrap desserts, but keep in mind that a lot of WDW desserts need refrigeration, and carrying them out isn't going to work well.

We did this once last summer -- with the Kid's sushi at California Grill. They were happy to do it and since we had a fridge at the BC it wouldn't have been a problem even if we'd ordered something that did require refrigeration.

The problem, however, was that we never got hungry -- we found ddp to be a huge amount of food, so each midday or evening when we came back to the room we were too stuffed to eat it. I did however, take it apart, figure out how it was made and then copy it for my son's school birthday treat (it was a big hit!).

The one other desert we did this with was fruit at breakfast. On our MK days DS and I would split a bagel and cream cheese at the bakery (we're not big breakfast people) and get a big bowl of grapes as our desert. The grapes were a great cool refreshing snack a few hours later, and the bowl kept them nice and crisp. However, now that you don't get desert with breakfast CS I'm not sure this is an option.

We did do this at Le Cellier last August. Not a problem unless you still plan on being in the parks and then it can get bothersome :stitch2: They put them in those med to large styrofoam take out boxes so I would think twice. :rotfl2:

Not a problem, the waiters would much rather see you walk out the door with it than not order it at all, since what they bring to your table (wrapped or not) they get their included 18% on!

We will have a fridge since we're staying at BC, and I'm not too concerned about carrying it around since I'm mostly thinking of dinners - most of our ADRs are for EPCOT restaurants, and after we eat we usually go right back to the hotel to swim (we're early risers, so our park visits are out of the way by 1pm) :thumbsup2

We did this last year -- took our Tiramisu from Alfredo's to eat while we watching Illuminations. If I'm not mistaken, they're tip is still based on what you order, so the waitstaff are usually happy to do this.

Did this last year on the plan. Enjoyed eating my cheesecake during Spectro.

We did this with all of our deserts, we would take them back to the hotel and try to eat them later, only thing was we were so stuffed everyday, there was so much waste.

Wanna share this classified sweet-sushi information? :hyper:

We did this most of our trip last time. Also, when we were at BB, we used our CS credits for lunch, and it included desert, which we knew there was no way we could eat, so they gave us these little tokens, resembling poker chips to reedeem for our ice creams later. There is no problem asking for to-go boxes for any of your leftovers, or even ordering the desert and asking for it to come out already boxed up. Have a great time, the only problem I think you will have is finding out that you may never get hungry enough to eat any of the leftovers or to go desserts!

Same here.

Choices are more limited though, because as someone else mentioned many of the desserts require immediate refrigeration. Our chocolate moose from Le Cellier didn't hold up so well, btw. ;)

Our last table service on our 9th night was at Planet Hollywood. We barely touched our dinner and the waiter talked us into to-go desserts (probably for that extra bit of tips, LOL). This is terrible...but we actually threw them in the trash at the DtD bus stop. We were tired and couldn't fathom being hungry again for the next two days, so there seemed to be no point carting it back to the room just to throw it into the miniscule trash can there when we checked out the next day. :guilty:

Not sure if this is the exact same kid's sushi item listed above, but sounds like it may be:

Yep! That was it. I just made the bars with the fish. It was fast, neater than a cupcake and the kids thought it was great!

I wish I had thought of it last year -- there were kids with sooo many food allergies in his class (they grouped them all in one class to make it easier for the nurse I believe). I bet this recipe would be easy to adapt for milk free, wheat free, egg free, soy free, nut free etc . . .

We were on free dinning last Sept and frequently got desserts to go... It was never a problem and they always put them in a styrofoam clamshell-container.

But you get soooooooooo much food on the dinning plan that we didn't get to eat all the desserts we brought back. I felt pretty bad wasting food.
