Will they turn you away?

If you have a reservation for 4 people, but show up with 5 people, will you be seated or turned away? ....During Thanksgiving week?

It is possible. I have only tried it the other way around, had booked a larger party than I showed with, and it was no problem. I would think that during down times it might not be as big an issue as when it is busier, and I would figure that the closer you get to Thanksgiving, the busier it would be.

Maybe

I go during Free Dining and we had no problems adding extra people to our ADR's when we checked in at the restaurants. I had 'Ohana (D), Akershus (B) and Crystal Palace (D). These were all booked for a table of 6 and then we needed a table for 8.

Since you'd be going from a table for four to one that can accommodate five, they might not turn you away; but you might have to wait quite a while before you can be seated.

I don't mind waiting longer, because I know it is an inconvenience for someone to show up with more or less than planned. I won't know definitely until much closer to then, but I figured there is no way to change my reservation at this point.

If they turn you away, then what will you do? If it were me, I would keep trying to get a resevation for 5 and then you will be covered for sure.

If you show up with more people than you have made your ADR for, there is no guarantee of that extra person being seated. It depends on how busy the restaurant is.

Your best bet is to keep trying to change your reservation to show the correct size of your party. If that doesn't work, show up early to your ADR and ask as nicely as possible if they can accomodate your extra guest. But be prepared to be told "No", because it does happen.

To answer your question they may not turn you away but will most likely turn the extra person away.

Not only are you dealing with going from an even # of people to an odd #, you should know that the restaurants have firecodes to deal with as well. So if you are dining at a popular place, that is booked to capacity, they will have to turn that extra person away to stay within the boundaries of the firecodes.

I always warn people, I have seen this happen many times, especially at popular places like Ohana and LeCellier.
Just make sure you have a back up plan for the extra person to have dinner somewhere other than with you.

I was a late added guest in a room in February, and my family had CRT for dinner. When they called to add me to the ADR, it was not possible. I showed up with them and they fitted me in. I was happy. I didn't expect it.

For every reservation?

I went Thanksgiving week 2008 checked in on Tue before Thanksgiving until Tue after.

tuesday - Thanksigiving day, was really slow at the parks and restaurants. Friday thru Sunday was super busy. Mon/Tue after was slow again. It depends on the day you are thinking of going to the restaurant with the extra person. I am a part of a party of 3..it would be easier for me to bring the extra person, as I would be sitting at a table for 4 anyway. Changing from 4 to 5 is harder.

I need to change a Crystal Palace reservation from 5 to 8

So far there's nothing on the web site. I will keep trying, and if I am unsuccessful I suppose we can all just show up on the day of the reservation and see if they can squeeze us in. If they can't, we'll have to skip the meal. :sad1:

All I can do is hope . . .

Or the original people eat there and meet up with the rest of the party afterwards.

We have a couple of months to keep checking, but going through the same thing. We were a party of five, now we are six. Was able to change almost all our ADR's except Crystal Palace, 'Ohana and California Grill. I'll be checking everyday to try and change those last three.

When we were there in March 2010 I had 1 extra person in a party of 11 for all 7 sit down meals and they accomodated him no questions asked.

We added a person for our upcoming trip and I was able to change all of my ADRs from 4 to 5 people, except for CRT :-( Although I keep checking every day with the hopes of something opening up, we are hoping that they will be able to accomodate us, we'd be willing to wait since we are asking them for a bigger table technically. If it doesn't work out, then my dad will probably skip the dinner there and let the girls keep the reservation for 4. I am wishing for a little of that pixie dust that all 5 of us can get it :goodvibes
