I talked to DVC this evening and they quoted me SS points at $89/point.
I could get resale points for $68/point.

Does DVC Direct negotiate at all?

With no closing costs for Direct vs the $450 closing for the resale I still get the points $20/pt cheaper with resale.

My only savings is time with Direct.....

Any luck getting DVD Direct to come off their original offer?

They don't negotiate the price that's being offered, I would just buy resale in your case.

No negotiating but the incentives, prices, rules and policies seem to change like the wind.

DVC will not negotiate...period. You may find better incentives being offered in different forums (online webcasts, cruises, off-site sales centers, etc.) but the price is the price. Go resale! :thumbsup2

Closing costs are negotiable, so if you have a motivated seller you may not have to pay that either.

DVC doesn't negotiate but they change incentives all the time. So best to ask what is the next incentive around the corner (starting in July for example).

If you don't receive the email updates from The Timeshare Store, Inc.® please feel free to email us at sales@dvcstore.com and we will add you to the distribution list. Disney incentives are constantly changing and so are our listings.

It depends on how many points you are buying, to determine whether it is worth doing the resale thing, in my opinion. If it is a small contract, the price difference may not be worth dealing with a private seller and broker and all of the waiting, ROFR, and unsurety.

However, if it is a larger points purchase, the cost difference will add up and make the resale a very attractive buy.

we are on the fence as well....looking at a 100pt contract...AKV...SS or BLT.....The hard part is narrowing down....we have only visited BLT on our last trip to WDW....but don't want to pay full price.....Just waiting for the right decison to come to us......

Have you considered buying resale?

I don't think the revenue they will receive from your SSR purchase is significant enough for them to change their policies, especially compared to the money they will receive during your visits over the next 40+ years.

I do believe Disney makes a good faith effort to keep their timeshares at a higher value than those from other companies. By holding firm, they are likely attempting to prove that the value of buying at list price (with a few calculated discounts) instead of flowing with the market forces (the discounts provided are likely an attempt to remain competitive, even if they are on the high side compared to the current market value of SSR).

This is actually good for us, as Disney is attempting fulfill their promise of maintaining the value of our purchase (whether altruistically or for their own well being).

If the $68 resale is loaded and is in the use year you want, go for it. Keep in mind it might be ROFR'd.
