Will they let you in to the AKL to eat at Mara?

We were thinking about exploring the AKL and eating at Mara one day of our trip. We don't want to use a TS there so I thought this would be a good way to see the resort. Is this allowed without adr?

Oh, sure! You walk right down to the restaurant section, with Jiko and Boma, thru the doors out to the pool, then stay on the walkway to Mara.

Stop into the gift shop at AKL - one of my favorites! Then go see the animals.

When you're done with lunch, just hop on the park bus of your choice!

Definitely. DH and I did this on one of our kid-free trips. It was our last day and we were not doing a park that day. After we checked out of our resort, we drove over to AKL, had lunch at Mara, walked outside to see the animals, admired the art in the lobby, and browsed in the gift shop before heading to the airport. It was a fun way to spend a couple of hours.

What exactly is Mara?

Mara is their counter service restaurant. And yes, definitely you can go and eat there.

I've gone to AKL to eat at the Mara a couple of times. Mostly I go to eat at Boma, though - more expensive but much better food!

I'm assuming you are driving. If not, not big deal to get on the bus to the Lodge.

If driving, just tell the gate guard that you would like to look around the resort. Have your photo ID ready and he/she might write down your license plate number. They do give out the three hour parking pass here. Just park (self or valet) and enjoy the resort. We do this all the time. Have to check out and see which animals are out and about.

We usually just tell the truth: we're coming here for lunch, and yes, they often record your ID info as they give you a 3 hour pass.
