Will the prices really go down?

No. Anytime the government starts sending out "free money" and calling it stimulus, expect higher prices. I learned my lesson in 2008, so when stimulus and PPP loans started flowing during the pandemic, I tightened our budget. Before the tariffs started, I stocked my pantry with imported items I knew were going to increase the most. If the proposed $2K tariff rebate becomes reality, expect another increase in prices. It's Economics 101.

Our chick fila used to have a line a mile long. Now you can just drive up. The only place that I see around us that is busy is In-an-out, You can still get a combo meal there for around 10-11 dollars.
I think our lines were very long before because of covid.

We ate at a McDonalds in September. 🤢 We rarely do and it's been many, many years since we set foot in one. There were kiosks to place your order. So, sure people who work there can demand much higher pay but then they just cut half the jobs that require a human.
At least Chick Fil A still has real people that take your order.
I'll take ordering at a kiosk any day.

We can now get eggs at our local store for $3.49 a dozen down from about $5.99 I think they were at their peak. Michigan now requires all eggs to be cage free so that does have some effect on the price but not all that much.

I also noticed yesterday that the store brand butter is on sale for $2.49 a pound. I will be stocking up on that this week. I go through a lot of butter this time of year, all the holiday baking and all.

We may see a decrease in prices from their peak with the tariffs, but likely we will not see the same prices as before. Companies will see this as a chance to bring in higher profits.

Ours was a nightmare for 10 years. They had restructure the Lowes parking lot to accommodate the lines. The dining room being shut down for 2 years certainly didn't help. I've always been amazed at how quickly they can move people through the line.

We rarely dine out anymore. I just can't justify the cost.

I think 2k will hardly make a dent for most people. People are so stretched and in debt they'll be using the money for a cart of groceries and to pay their electric bill not vacations this time around. A lot has changed in since 2020.

Tariffs have minimal impact on most grocery store prices. The majority of price changes come from market conditions like supply, labor, fuel, and weather. A small number of imported or packaged items are affected by tariffs, but they’re not the main reason for overall food price changes.

Beef and meats are a commodity traded as futures as orders are placed well in advance by suppliers. Beef as an example was higher through 21 and 22 then it is today and reached its highest level in 24 it is actually down over 6% from a year ago today. There are many other expenses at play ranging from Labor, shipping, Rent, Utilities to theft in stores all of which are far higher these days which get passed along. The suppliers of course can adjust price based on demand.

Our chick fil a is still a traffic nightmare, at least they have employees out in the parking lot to direct traffic. Complicating the situation, it is next to an In and Out, with only a car wash between them. Getting in and out of that car wash is a challenge. The chick fil a is 3 miles from us, and they just broke ground on a new location a mile from us. Wonder if that will ease the line? Ironically the new one is being right next to a Vons Chicken fast food place. Not a fan of Chick Fil A, so Vons will continue to get out chicken business.
