Will the prices really go down?

No. Anytime the government starts sending out "free money" and calling it stimulus, expect higher prices. I learned my lesson in 2008, so when stimulus and PPP loans started flowing during the pandemic, I tightened our budget. Before the tariffs started, I stocked my pantry with imported items I knew were going to increase the most. If the proposed $2K tariff rebate becomes reality, expect another increase in prices. It's Economics 101.

Our chick fila used to have a line a mile long. Now you can just drive up. The only place that I see around us that is busy is In-an-out, You can still get a combo meal there for around 10-11 dollars.

I think our lines were very long before because of covid.

We ate at a McDonalds in September. We rarely do and it's been many, many years since we set foot in one. There were kiosks to place your order. So, sure people who work there can demand much higher pay but then they just cut half the jobs that require a human.
At least Chick Fil A still has real people that take your order.

I'll take ordering at a kiosk any day.

We can now get eggs at our local store for $3.49 a dozen down from about $5.99 I think they were at their peak. Michigan now requires all eggs to be cage free so that does have some effect on the price but not all that much.

I also noticed yesterday that the store brand butter is on sale for $2.49 a pound. I will be stocking up on that this week. I go through a lot of butter this time of year, all the holiday baking and all.

We may see a decrease in prices from their peak with the tariffs, but likely we will not see the same prices as before. Companies will see this as a chance to bring in higher profits.

Ours was a nightmare for 10 years. They had restructure the Lowes parking lot to accommodate the lines. The dining room being shut down for 2 years certainly didn't help. I've always been amazed at how quickly they can move people through the line.

We rarely dine out anymore. I just can't justify the cost.

I think 2k will hardly make a dent for most people. People are so stretched and in debt they'll be using the money for a cart of groceries and to pay their electric bill not vacations this time around. A lot has changed in since 2020.
