Will the new Boardwalk view affect the other DVC locations?

Now that essentially all standard view and boardwalk views at BWV will be reserved by BWV owners during the first 4 months of reservations, will other DVC owners who booked a preferred view in the past, in hopes of getting the elusive Boardwalk view no longer stay there? Realizing the potential that many owners at other DVC resorts no longer see the allure of staying at BWV, could this adversely affect the BWV resort, resulting in lower occupancy rates? At the same time will the other DVC locations (OKW, VWL, BCV, and soon to be SS) now have more requests to stay there because there is a chance at getting a preferred room with the first come first serve system?
I am a BCV owner and applaud the new Boardwalk View Class; however wonder how this change affects the entire system.

Given that requests used to be considered in the order received and therefore the BW owners had preference all long - generally speaking - I can't see where this will have much effect except to stop the heartache at the desk on check-in. I think people will still cancel BoardWalk views - or maybe not request them either and make them available to all.

For example, when I go with my DH, we like to stay on the BW view but when with the grandkids, we ask for 1st floor pool view.

JMHO!!!!!!

Katleena, thank-you for the reply; however from reading many of the recent posts it sounds like there are DVC owners from other resorts who thought that they had a chance, albeit a slim one, at a boardwalk view in the past. Now that they no longer have a shot at a boardwalk view are they going to instead stay at the other resorts and at least have a shot at a preferred room there? In another thread someone mentioned that they are no longer going to stay at BWV for the high points with no shot of getting the boardwalk view they wanted. They instead will either save points and go to OKW or go to BCV with use of SAB and at least have a chance at a preferred room at these resorts. Are there more people like this and can this adversely affect the entire DVC system?

Actually Bubbleboy, I've kept up pretty closely with all the threads about the BWV view changes and I'm fairly certain it was me who said I wouldn't stay at BWV again. My reasoning was because I'll never get a STANDARD VIEW and probably won't be able to save up the points for a preferred view ever again (which would mean I couldn't "afford" a BCV or VWL room either, as I believe they are the same points as preferred view). DH and I only own 150 points at OKW and we will be taking a non-DVC vacation next year, so we're using all our points for two years for this one vacation. Otherwise, we max out our 150 points every year and then some!

However, I think only time will tell what happens with BWV. I was thinking last night that during off seasons if enough BWV members book the boardwalk view rooms, there might be some standard views leftover at the 7 month mark for the rest of us. Then again, they may still take up the standard views first to save points, which might leave open a boardwalk view for a non-BWV owner. Or they may find themselves with a lot of empty non-boardwalk view rooms because people see no reason to book there when they have no shot at getting what they want. But then again, when you call at 4 months out and a PV at BWV is all you can get, are you going to cancel your trip or stay at BWV?

So I guess what I'm saying is you can beat around the different scenarios, but only time will tell where things go from here.

I don't know if it will adversely affect the BW but I think it adversely affects the other resorts. OKW and SSR will get more requests due to lower points and BC will fill up quicker. The owners of those resorts will have to compete with the BW owners for the premium views while there is no competition at BW for the premium views. The only way room ready is fair is if its implemented the same at Boardwalk to include Boardwalk view.

Although I agree with all your assesments here is my take on the situation. First of all my DW and I are owners at BWV which we purchased in 1999.(150pts). Getting a view of the BW was never a consideration to us, because it was never guranteed. The attraction was the area, everthing to do and being able to walk to epcot and a short boat ride to mgm, which later on turned into another short walk to mgm. Since then we have added on 100pt at the BCV. I personally don't think reservations will decrease because of views. Just my own take.

Everybody have great trips.

I don't think reservations will be affected that greatly. We are BWV owners and will typically reserve a standard view. We reserved a preferred view for the fall because there Were no standard view's available. I would not have cancelled the reservation if we were given a Pool view. The fact that MS confirmed a BW view was just icing on the cake. I think people will stay where they want to stay, and I don't anticipate any changes in view categories at the other resorts in the near future. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

I doubt it will have any affect one way or another. Owners at the other resort won't have to compete unless in the 7 months window, the way it always has been. Relatively speaking, BCV has no views I'd consider equivilent to the BW view. Anyone remember the standard view for preferred prices discussions/debate we had a year or two ago.
