"... especially since Seuss Landing is the first Island you come to when you naturally go to the right upon entering ..."
Can I assume you are a lefty, Snoopymom?
From what I've heard about McBean's - and a whole lot has been written on the subject, mostly idle speculation - emergency ride evacuation is the problem. It seems the ride was designed in such a way that the only way to get someone down from a car stuck between buildings is by a crane. Now, cranes are often used in these cases - not that this comes up very often - but there does not appear to be a way for a crane to access the areas needed without a) blocking the narrow, winding path leading through SL, and b) perhaps doing damage to the walkway, which some think may not be able to properly support said crane. So, in the end, the higher ups might have decided, especially with the massive debt occured building IOA, that the whole thing was too much of a headache and just let it be. Who knows. The guy that built - or should I say paid to build - IOA is an old aquaintance of my Pa, and if I ever run into him again that's something I'll have to ask him ...
Oh, and as far as why I'm speculating on your southpaw status, Snoopymom - most people that are right-handed naturally turn left when entering stores, malls, parks, etc. Lefties go the other way. So here's a tip for IOA newbies - take your first circuit of the islands counter-clockwise, to go against the flow ...
