Will Star Tours make me sick?

Have never ridden Star Tours as the multitude of motion sickness signs have always scared me off. Was wondering if it would make me sick?

I've ridden the following with no problems: Soarin, Tower of Terror, all 3D movies, Splash, Dinosaur.

Pushing my limits but I usually enjoy them are: Thunder and Space.

If I'm feeling brave (and last trip I didn't) but I know I won't feel right 50% of the time: EE.

I wouldn't dare try: Mission Space or Rockin Roller Coaster.

Thoughts?

If you can handle Dinosaur, I would think you'd be fine on Star Tours. Out of the rides you mentioned, my DH loves Soarin, is okay with Star Tours, but won't do any of the others.

I never had a problem with the original attraction, but i rode the new version last year with the 3D glasses and was very queasy at the end. It was a combination of being hot & motion sickness

I don't ever get sick on rides. And I did feel a bit nauseous when I rode at Thanksgiving last year :(

If you can do Dinosaur and 3d movies, I think you will be fine. The ship tilts, but not that much, and not violently at all.

I get somewhat motion sick on Thunder and Space as well as Dinosaur and ToT and there are a couple spots on Soarin's where it gets me a bit. I ride most of them on every trip though. :)
Star Tours is a no go for me. I get really sick on that, even though it is very fun. I tried the new 3D one and it was just as bad as the old one. But you should give it one try. You will know shortly after it starts flying if it works or not for you. If you start to get sick, close your eyes.

The only ride I can not ride is the tea cups but I did feel a little motion sickness after getting off star tours. Nothing big. It went away just as soon as I took the 3d glasses off and got into the air conditioned store. If it was me I would go ahead and ride the ride and if I started to feel too bad I would just close my eyes until the ride ended. I think the motion sickness comes from the 3d effects more than the actual movement of the ride.

I've wondered this myself... my kids love Star Tours and I really want to try it!
Soarin' there are a couple parts where I simply need to close my eyes.
Primeval Whirl - once it starts really spinning at the end I need to plant my feet firmly, hold on tight and close eyes and really hope don't get sick!

Not sure Star Tours would be good idea for me.

I had just the opposite experience - the old version was a once-per-trip thing for me, because I love Star Wars and enjoyed the ride but knew it would leave me feeling "off" for hours. The new one has none of that effect. I rode it a half dozen times in one afternoon in January without even the slightest hint of motion sickness.

OP, I have problems with motion sickness that are very specific to spinning motions and simulators. Roller coasters don't bother me but I can't do the tea cups, have to take Astro Orbiter in very small doses and only if the timing is right (not too hot, not before/after other spinning rides), and got queasy on the chicken side of Mission Space. The new Star Tours hasn't been a problem for me. The video seems to be better synced to the movements and of course it is better resolution, and that makes it feel like more of a natural ride experience than a simulator.

My DH gets motion sickness and he was fine on the new Star Tours. I think you will only know for sure how it affects you if you try it. Good luck to you!

I can handle all of the rides you mentioned at least once. However I can not handle Star Tours. I can not really do any motion simulator rides or fast spinning rides.

Although if you are determined to go on you can try taking bonine or dramamine before you attempt it. I was determined last year to go on HP Forbidden Journey last year at IoA. I took one pill when we got to the park and one when we got in line and was able to enjoy the ride. I assure you I would have been a mess had I not taken anything.

Good luck!

I just returned from Disney- I too can ride Soarin, ToT, Splash, Dinosaur, Thunder, & Space without any problem.
I also discovered that I can do Mission Space and RnR without feeling green-
So, I figured I could do Star Tours-
WRONG decision. That ride did not hit my stomach well.
I'm not sure if I had eaten something funny for breakfast or if the ride was just pushing my limits too much, but I wouldn't do it again.

I never rode the original attraction, since my mother warned me of the sickness. I tried it on my own this year, and with the :3dglasses I didn't think I would make it out alive.

Sorry if I sound really negative- I just wish I hadn't ridden that morning! I'm also not really big into Star Wars, so I didn't have much to take my attention off being sick, so maybe the ride would be a different experience for you!

Good luck! Take Dramamine!

My DH has the weakest stomach of anyone I know, and its one of his face. I JUST ride or for the first time in march ( after 15 trips), because I was afraid. Its not bad at all. Now dinosaur....i was not a fan. So if you can do that one...star tours is nothing.

I can do Dinosaur, but Star Tours makes me very queasy. I rode it with DD once last year and was sick for a couple hours after. This year I went with DH and he had never ridden it, so I went again, but I kept my eyes closed the whole time. It was a lot better for me :)

I never ever get sick on rides but I felt awful after Star Tours:sick: I think it had to do with the three d glasses and the sensation that it gave me. I was green around the gills, it wasn't pretty. When My kids wanted to go on again, I closed my eyes and was fine. I don't think it was the motion.

I totally disagree with those saying that if you can do Dinosaur, Star Tours will be fine. They are not even remotely the same! Yes they are both jerky, but what got me in Star Tours was the 3D.

Star Tours is one of the only WDW rides I can't do (never tried M:S and know I can't handle the teacups)! I had to take my glasses off almost immediatley but since the entire room is moving there is really no escape.

If motion simulator rides make you quesy, I would skip it or take dramamine. I know I won't be riding again!!

Glad to hear that I wasn't the only one that was a little queasy on Dinosaur. I love Splash Mountain but don't even attempt any of the others (space, TOT etc.) I am considering Soarin but I don't quite know how that will work

DH can ride almost everything, but he felt a little queasy after riding Star Tours this past March. I get very sick in simulator rides and IMAX - I can't ride Soarin', but thought I'd give the new Star Tours a try because DH wanted to ride. I had to close my eyes halfway through the ride. We crossed that one of our list.

I think the answer to these sorts of questions is "Everyone's different." I'll be sicker than a dog for the rest of the day if you put me on the Tea Cups, but I'm fine with Mission:Space Orange. The Carrousel can make me feel disoriented, but I have no problems with platform rides (Dinosaur!, Star Tours, Soarin') or 3D movies, or coasters (except the ones that pull serious G's make me want to sit down for a couple of minutes until the World stops tilting). Everyone seems to have their own set of reactions to any given set of attractions.
