I have never bought a last minute ticket. Has Southwest ever been known to drop their prices within a month of traveling. I screwed up and should have bought the ticket Sunday night but waited till last night and price was up. My traveling date is Nov. 4th. I would really like a straight through flight.

Tell me what the winning power ball numbers are for tomorrow night and I'll tell you if Southwest will drop their prices.

Bottom line... no one knows. Depends on availability. If they have a lot of seats to sell, they'll drop the prices. If not, they won't. No one here can tell you what that availability is (or even make a guess).

I was hoping someone has bought last minute flights or have tracked last minute flights. Oh well, guess I am buying at a higher rate.

They don't usually drop within the last month. Plus it looks like Nov 4 is a Friday which generally means higher prices anyway. Keep checking after you buy it though because if it does go down you can get a credit for future flights.

We have flights booked for 11-4 and have tracked pricing. We paid $119 in June, they dropped to $112 in late August. They went to $150 over the weekend and are $137 today. I do not expect the price to drop this close. Most SW flights have the wanna get away fares removed 2 weeks out and the price skyrockets.

The problem is someone may have said "yes, I saved $100 by waiting until 3 weeks before my flight". However, maybe they're flying an unpopular route at an unpopular time. You however are trying to fly a popular route at a popular time and decide to wait until 3 weeks because the other guy saved money. Now you're paying double what you would have gotten before.

My experience with really last minute flights is that the rates are high. I have flown SW many times when work decided at the last minute when they wanted me to fly out (anwhere from 2 weeks to the day before the flight) and they always paid a ton... great for my rapid rewards account though :)

Thanks everyone. This was really a last minute trip that dropped in my lap. I usually by my tickets 5 mos out so this is so very last minute for me. I decided to do a layover to help with the cost.
