As previously noted, Obama didn't say anything about not running if the Porkulus package doesn't work. In fact, after a couple weeks of pre-passage hyperbole and "Pass this or else we're possibly doomed..." rhetoric, it appears that Obama is now back-pedalling and trying to manage people's expectations: "White House dampens stimulus expectations"

So I wonder how long the public is going to buy this shtick given that another possible trillion dollar plus bill (Son of TARP), and other financial spending programs from Tim the Enchanter are reportedly around the corner?!?!? The sad thing is that the banking bill will likely be more critical to our country's financial health than the Progressive-program-spending-masquerading-as-a-short-term-stimulus bill, but Obama may be risking the success of it if people starting questioning the repeated use of the "chicken little" playbook and develop a case of "bailout" fatigue.

Absolutely, and the more the government borrows in the guise of a "stimulus" package, the greater the competition for loans. We will see interest rates rise to levels not seen since Jimmy Carter. In addition, Obama's talking down the economy so he can appear to be the knight on the white horse may indeed backfire on him. He may get exactly what he has been "wishing" for. A self fulfilling prophecy.

There won't be any need. The recession will end, like all recessions do. And Obama will claim victory, regardless of how much the pork package had to do with it.

No politician will or can keep all of their promises.

Mind boggling isn't it-I would have thought he would have fullfilled all his campaign promises in his first 27 days  Oh wait, I forgot you conservatives call him the Messiah  My bad, yeah, he should have fullfilled those promises in his first week.

Where does it state President Obama will not run for re-election in 2012? Hmm, nowhere :rolleyes1 He says if it fails, the people will not re-elect him.

Well Happy Monday morning DISers. What's cooking today? Or should I say stirring :stir: ?

WOW, i did not know Louis Farrakhan was a conservative, he called nobama the messiah himself!!!!!:rotfl2:

Obama seems to have problems with promises, he hasn't even gotten those girls a dog yet, has he?

I love how everyone says he's broken campaign promises. I have yet to see ANY politician on EITHER side of the aisle keep ALL of the promises they make during their compaigns.

Also, it's funny how people read more than what is actually printed on the page. I didn't read anything where Obama said he wouldn't run for re-election if the stimulus didn't work. He said we would have a new President.

Also, people, seriously, Obama is not Mickey Mouse. He's not going to appear on top of some mountain somewhere wearing a wizard's hat and change everything with a flick of the wrist. :wizard: <---- Not Obama!

It took 8 years to get into this mess and it's not going to be fixed in a mere four weeks. Am I crazy about this stimulus bill? No, absolutely not. I don't think anyone is. But, to be honest, I didn't see any other alternate plans being offered by the GOP. Just a bunch of griping. How about we actually wait and see what happens over the next couple of years before we sentence Obama to eternal damnation??

Didn't he get a three legged rescue dog?:lmao: :lmao:
No, seriously, I think I saw a magazine cover with him holding a three legged little poodley, maltese type dog.

I think it's hysterical that you felt the need to clarify that the wizard smiley wasn't Obama.:rotfl2:

Have to disagree with you on the "8 years" statement. We were very well off until 2006. Then we started down the hill to where we are today. Who took control of congress in 06??? I alwasy got such a kick out of the fact that the manistream media, would on almost a daily basis, spout off the approval rating of Prez Bush, which they say hovered around 30%. BUT they never mentioned that the democratically controlled congress had an approval rating BELOW 20% solidly for last few years.

Actually, there were alternative ideas and programs that were offered by the GOP... Here's only one example. Other GOP lawmakers wanted a serious compromise bill beyond that. You've bought into Obama's "big lie" that to oppose his Porkulus bill meant that you wanted to "do nothing" or "just complain".

It's also enlightening to look at the final process that resulted in the bill that is awaiting Obama signature. In order to generate the final bill, the Democrats met behind closed doors (GOP excluded) in order to reconcile the differences between the House passed bill and the version the Senate passed. The Senate version was a "compromise" that lowered the overall price tag by around $100B and threw in some extra tax cuts to entice the three needed GOP Senators to vote for it. Well, in the closed door meeting the Democrats kept the lower price tag roughly the same, but they added back in much of the questionable spending taken out in the Senate "compromise" AND they "paid" for the added spending by eliminating a large chunk of the tax cuts!!! So it was a Democratic "double-whammy". GOP Senators' Collins, Snow, and Specter's compromise efforts were effectively reversed... as in the end it was worthless. How's that for gratitude???

Oh, and on top of all of this the Congressional Budget Office last month projected that the recession will end in the latter part of 2009 without the Porkulus bill. Note that this doesn't mean that no "stimulation" would be needed, but it refutes a major part of Obama's "We're about to step off of a cliff" hyperbole.

but they "paid" for the added spending by eliminating a large chunk of the tax cuts!!!

IMHO tax cuts just don't work. It's been tried before and it didn't do anything.

Again, just my opinion.
:confused3

I don't think he'll need to keep his word or seek re-election.

He could simply seek to change the (4 year) term and (end) term limits. He could be President forever.

:rolleyes1

While we're at it, why don't we just name him King that way, all that follow in his blood line will rule the country for eternity. :hourglass

First America. Next, the world!

I agree with those that have posted no politican can do it, as sad as it is.

I'll be nice....Every time we cut taxes, encourage investment in the private sector, and cut government spending the economy improves. Just look at what Regan did after Carter, and Bush did in his first term after Clinton. Now his second term, well can we say brain fart.......:confused3
