Will Non-Star Wars Fans Enjoy Galaxy Edge

I've seen the original 3 star wars a long time ago, but have not followed the more recent movies. DD hasn't seen any.

Will we still enjoy Star Wars rides and land? Or do you really need a full understanding of the movies and storyline?

DH and DS are real fans so they'll for sure want to visit, but wondering if we'll be good joining them, or if we should see other things at HS and meet up with them later (not sure if enough to keep us busy as we don't do ToT or Rockin Rollercoaster)

The rides are a flight sim(Smugglers Run) and a fully immersive experience, so even us Trekkies(had to make that joke, I am a fan of both for different reasons) can enjoy that. Whatever else you try in this area of the park is your call, but go with an open mind to get the most out of it. Of the two experiences, I feel non-fans would get more out of Droid Depot due to it basically being an rc robot, while the lightsabers are more oriented to the hardcore fan, though both experiences seem fun to me.

We are also not SW fans (never seen any of the movies!) but still enjoyed the theming of the land. We didn’t appreciate it as much as we would’ve if we knew more about SW, but it was still worth a visit for the amazing theming

I am not a Star Wars fan nor is my daughter. I didn’t understand everything going on in the land but they hit the ball out of the park with the theming. The ROTR ride i thought was good- but I prefer FOP. My daughter, on the other hand, said she would wait five hours to ride ROTR again. She is 16. We both thought the MFSR ride was ok- but would not wait more than 20-30 minutes for it.-and we were both pilots so we had the best seats on the ride.

I hate Frozen, but it's still one of my favorite rides on Disney property! I don't think enjoyment of the movie and enjoyment of the Disney land/attraction(s) have to be synonymous with one another. Just my 2 cents!

The land is built with everyone in mind. For the casual park goer non fan to the uber fan, it has layers and layers of detail. Now I don't understand your point of possibly being inside dhs and not visiting the land because you're not sw fans? I mean if you're at ak do you not visit dinoland usa because you're not fans of dinosaurs?

Thank you all for your comments. That's what I was hoping. Disney does an amazing job with theming so was hoping that you don't need to know all the Star Wars movies/stories/characters to still appreciate it an enjoy. I'm sure it's that much cooler if you do, but still can appreciate it and have a good time if you don't.

Thank you all for your comments. That's what I was hoping. Disney does an amazing job with theming so was hoping that you don't need to know all the Star Wars movies/stories/characters to still appreciate it an enjoy. FOP is short for Flight of Passage, a ride at Animal Kingdom. The way I have described SWGE (Star Wars Galaxy's Edge) to other people is it's like going to a Renaissance Faire, except it's Star Wars. Lot's of people go to Ren Faires to have fun and enjoy a little escapism, and as others have pointed out the level of participation varies person to person. The cast members will use area specific terminology for things (credits instead of dollars), will greet you as a traveler, and the food has exotic names (that they have recently added standard english names to the menu). You might see guests who have dressed up, as much as the rules allow, as different Star Wars characters. Other fans wearing Star Wars t-shirts, hats, etc, and some guest who are there just to check out what's happening. For someone really into Star Wars this will be a place they will want to spend a lot of time in to try everything, and discover all the little hidden details of the land. I agree with brad813 that some things will not impact you as much if you are not a Star Wars fan, like the lightsaber build especially with it's high price tag. However, you cannot help but appreciate the attention to detail that went into this place. I am a huge Star Wars fan, my wife is not. Her thoughts on it were it's a neat place, just not her thing. So I encourage you to at least pop in and check it out to form your own opinion on it. Besides Toy Story Land or Grand Avenue are just around the corner if it turns out not to be your cup of tea. Insert me doing flight attendant exit motions. Have a great trip.

RotR is an incredible experience that it seems to me that anyone with a love of fiction and adventure, much less science fiction, would love, And the SWGE area itself is beautifully done--architecture, landscape, mood, etc. Gorgeous. I highly recommend it.

Ah ok course....should have realized FOP was Flight of Passage. That ride looks amazing. It's tempting to visit AK just for it, but there isn't a ton of other rides that interest us, so we'll most likely skip it (unless our plan changes between now and FP selection time). Plus, I've heard that FP for FOP is pretty hard too....and this is a very short pre-cruise trip.

That makes sense how you describe the difference of how a Star Wars fan enjoys the new land vs a non-fan. But yes, you have all convinced me that we will all visit it. If the responses were that you need to be a fan, then DD and I would go off and we'd set a meeting time, but sounds like you can still completely enjoy. I do love Disney and how they do things.
