Will New Fantasyland at WDW steal some of the Cars Land crowds?

As most of the DLR regulars on this board can attest, we've seen an influx of WDW "vets" over the past year inquiring about, preparing for and embarking on DLR vacations instead of their usual WDW excursions. It's clearly no coincidence why so I'm wondering (in fact, hoping) with New Fantasyland just around the corner, will the WDW lookie-loos be drawn back to WDW?

DIS, what do you think? Will DLR deflate a bit as the allure of new WDW attractions distracts everyone? Are the new attendance numbers at DLR a "new normal" regardless of who is coming?

Your thoughts?

I'd say not until Snow White Mine Train opens. Right now, the only thing worth a trip across the country has already been open at DCA for over a year.

I agree completely with this part of your post.

If I was going for the new Fantasyland at WDW I would most definitely wait until (2013/14?) when the SW Mine Train is open. Then ALL of the new stuff would be available. Also, since WDW is staggering the opening of FL, it won't be as much of a rush of crowds if you wait until it's all done.

I think those who are coming to Carsland have already made their plans and will not cancel them. I think disney marketed this so that CL would draw people in first while FL is not completely done, then the new Fantasyland at WDW will draw more people in the next year or two when the newness of CL calms down a bit.

I've seen posts of WDW people planning to do Carsland and/or west coast disney cruises "in the interim" until Fantasyland at WDW is more completed.

Both coasts are going to see increases in park attendance.

Not sure what you meant by this? Carsland at DCA only opened this June, not over a year ago and it is drawing in large numbers of visitors.

The little mermaid ride has been at DCA for over a year....the only new thing going on in MK right now.

We are WDW vets who are coming to DLR in January because of Cars Land. However, we will be heading back to WDW in the Fall of 2014 after the Snow White Coaster opens earlier that year.

However, the Fantasyland construction completion is only part of the story. The elimination of 6-day and longer park hopper passes at DLR is another reason we'll be headed back to WDW. Also, we like the fact that you can eat at Crystal Palace inside the Magic Kingdom an hour before the park opens. For people staying at one of the DLR hotels, Minnie's is only open during ride time.

How did I miss hearing about this?!?! I am so glad I decided to push our WDW vacation back 1 year now. We will be there in 2014, along with the rest of the massive crowds.

All we have officially seen is that the Coaster will open "in 2014". That's a very big range. If I had to guess, it'll be open in time for summer vacation.

We're doing DL in 2013. Decided to wait until after mine train opened to return to WDW.

Back when I planned our 2011 WDW trip, the intention was to go back to WDW fall of 2013. At that time, I thought mine train would be open then. But, since they're now saying early 2014, we decided to do DL instead. (There were a few other factors too.) But like a previous posted mentioned, the main new ride we could hit in FL (Little Mermaid) is already open at DCA. I would like to eat at Be Our Guest, see Belle's cottage and the Beast's castle, ride the new Dumbo, etc. But I can wait until the mine train is done so that I don't have to walk around construction to do it.

I read igo4yellin's post completely differently - took me a minute to figure out what they were saying. Sounded at first like they were saying going across country to Florida but they meant across country to California.

As a WDW Vet I've decided to go back to DL for a 2nd time because of the construction work going on in FL. However, once the New FL is officially open, I will go back to visiting WDW for sure! :beach:

The new FL doesn't have me planning a trip back to WDW. I've ridden the LM ride and it is just cute, nothing to plan a trip around. Though Be our Guest and the promise of a glass of champagne in the MK seems wonderful, it isn't worth making a trip for either. I'll consider a WDW again after we see how the Mine Train turns out.

Well from what I've heard the Mine Train ride at MK is more D-ticket than E-ticket so I'm not sure I would plan a trip based on that, either. The rumored Iron Man ride in DL's Tomorrowland is supposed to be an E-ticket, however.

I will say, yes I am local to DL about 30 miles, the new Fantasyland at WDW is so underwellming even with the new mine train ride, I will not be making any special plans to go. I will see it on my annual trip to Food and Wine.

We are actually doing DL and WDW next year so will be getting the Premier Pass when we go in December.

We are not going because of new Fantasyland, we are going because we love the Halloween Party and Christmas Party, and we are taking a Cruise so will be there.

Our plans for Disneyland are Spring Break and late June. We are a DL family. Our son has been there more than 30 times now, and he is only 10. And we live out of state. We have been to WDW twice. Halloween and Christmas and will be going back for both. Nothing can beat DL 'it's a small world Holiday' but the party at WDW is fantastic.

So to answer your question, for us, no, neither Cars Land or Fantasyland is making much of a difference for us.
