Will my male betta fish attack my guppy and platy?

I have a male Betta in his own bowl, and a mickey mouse platy and guppy in a 5 gallon filtered bowl. Could I put the Betta together with the other two fish, or will they nip/be aggressive towards each other?

Before, I had two male Betta fish with a tank divider..it somehow slipped and fell one way and they had gotten near each other and attacked; their fins were in bad condition.

Do you think my male Betta will show the same aggression towards my mickey mouse platy and guppy? They're pretty small fish; considerably smaller than my Betta.

TIA

I would keep the beta away from other fish...the male is a definate fight to the death fish

I put my male betta in a tank with fancy tail guppies, zebra fish and others....he left them alone

If the other fish stay away from him, and the tank is big enough, he MAY not harm them- but I wouldn't risk it. Male bettas are very territorial and will attack other fish who "invade their space".

I always had beta fish in with others... guppy's, neon tetra's, angel fish, gold fish - never had a problem at all.

Actually we did this with our fish. Our betta did fine with the other fish. Our Mickey Mouse fish were really aggressive and killed our Betta and our large finned goldfish we had. After we moved to a new house, all our Mickey fish died and we got a new breed of fish, they get along peacefully with our new male Betta. We have a 55 gallon tank.

I had a male betta that attacked everything with fins. A few of them died.

From www.Fishlore.com ---

Temperament / Behavior : Peaceful if given the right tank mates. They will become aggressive with other Bettas. They may also become aggressive towards other tropical fish with large fins such as guppies, angelfish and others.

we tried once, it attacked the other fish. I don't remember what it was though. I don't think it messed with the goldfish we had though. He was a pig, probably double the betta's size.

I had 2 FEMALE bettas in a 10 gallon tank- one killed the other.... bettas are VERY aggressive!

There is such a thing as a Mickey mouse fish???

Off to Google:cool1:

Based on personal experience, one 10-gallon tank + one beta fish + two neon tetras + one small angelfish = one happy beta fish, two deceased neon tetras with giant holes in their belllies and a small angelfish that found a way to leap out of the tank (despite a cover) dead on the floor.

The aquarium guy told me it would be OK, but it definitely did not work out.

We never had any issues as long as we only had 1 beta in the tank with the other fish.

We had a Betta in a 3 gallon tank, we decided to put him in our 75 gallon planted freshwater community tank, he was not happy in the big tank so we put him back in his little tank. :) Seriously, he was fine with the other fish (cardinal tetras, algae eaters, clown loach, red tail black shark and a few other types of tetras) but he did not like being in the big tank. We thought he'd love it, with all the plants and space but he didn't.....he stressed himself out so we put him back in the little tank. I wouldn't put him in with anything that has "fancy" fins, like guppies, he might feel territorial and attack them, but if there are just standard fish he might be ok.....
