Will members get the BWV Valet lot back for self parking?

Now that we don't get the valet perk for DVC, I wonder if they will move the valet lot to the right side at BW or better yet across by the Hess station and give BWV members the left side lot back for parking (the one that has been shrinking, shrinking, shrinking for the last five years as valet took it over). This is the most convenient lot for BWV DVC members to park - makes sense to get it back again for self parking.

Are you saying that the valet lot used to be a self parking lot?

However, even if it was I would doubt that the valet lot would be moved to the farthest away lot. Every hotel I can think of has the valet lot closest to the hotel. Maybe it's something to do with the fact that the valets are constantly running back and forth between the lot and the drop off area. The goal is to get the cars parked and the valets back in place for the next customer.

Now if it turns out the valet and handicapped cars need less parking space, then perhaps part of the lot could be turned into self parking. If doubt if they would label it as DVC only, but would call it resort guest parking.

Yes, that valet lot used to be the self-parking lot. It was the self-parking lot we used to use as BWI guests, actually, and DH was very surprised to discover it had been completely turned over to valet when we were there last month.

I will say, it was half empty or more every time we went by it that trip. Without free valet for DVC members, there may be far less demand for valet at the BWV. If the lot is empty most of the time, it might turn back into self-parking, which I think would be nice.

I thought I remembered us self-parking there many years ago, but recently it has been valet only, so I thought I had lost my mind. It would be great if even part of the lot returned to self-parking status for resort guests. That lot is much closer to many of the villas. It would be very convenient.

Is the entire left side valet now? It used to be just the half closest to the pond was valet, the half closest to the guard shack was self parking.

There's no way they will move valet across the street. People who are willing to pay $12 aren't going to want to wait forever to get their car driven up.

We stopped at the Boardwalk on Sunday at 4:00 to grab dinner before heading to the airport - the guard directed us to the lot on the left, which on that map says valet We were prepared to be told to go across the street, and were pleasantly surprised!

When we were there last month, there was still that small self parking area on the other side of the valet lot closer to the guard shack. I too saw the map and wondered why it didn't show anymore because it was still there 3 weeks ago.

That's the way it's been as long as I can remember. I guess if valet is expecting alot of cars, such as a holiday, they can just block that entire side but normally half is open.

When I was looking at the map in the link furnished by vicki_c in an earlier post, I noticed that on the left side of the valet lot there appeared to be a section that could easily be blocked off from the valet lot. Is the one you all are talking about?

Handicapped spaces have always been the first few rows by the lake in the left lot. Valet started out as about ten rows behind that with plastic "jersey" barriers and a gate separating it from the self-park lot. Self park also went all the way from the tennis court area back so you could still self-park and be near the walkway along the canal that leads to the villas and the quiet pool area. This was very convenient. Starting about in 2003 the valet expanded more and more and the ability to park in the whole front part of the left lot was removed during most seasons. At first, the excuse was the need to store materials and provide parking for contractors that were replacing the siding and then the pipes at BWV. Valet never uses the amount of space they are allotted except during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter peak weeks per my experiences staying there over the years. Most of the time the valet lot is 80% empty, even during weekend peak periods.

Given DVC is a home away from home resort and access to your car to bring in luggage, groceries, etc. is a great convenience (if you're too cheap like me to drop them off with the bellman and then tip him to bring them up to the room). The left side lot always provided a great convenience factor that the right side and drop-off areas did not. I can understand BW wanting to limit people from parking onsite who don't belong, but taking more and more of this lot away just didn't make sense in 2003 and it makes even less sense now. I feel that most people would use valet for a few dollars tip, but won't use it for a $12 fee plus tip.
