Will May be busy with Happiest Celebration on Earth?

DH and I are trying to plan our 1st ever trip away without the kids. We were thinking about the 1st week in May to avoid the Easter/spring break/summer vacation crowds. Now I'm seeing that there is going to be festivites at WDW in honor of DL 50th celebration. Is WDW going to be packed at that time? Would we be better off going towards the end of April or if we wait until mid May would that be better. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Normally Early and Mid May are pretty quiet. I really think though the crowd levels will be up a bit with the celebration events. Especially w/ the new rides and attractions opening. Also, the actual first week of May is likely to have press events. These will mean limited access to the new attractions or areas of the parks for a day or two. They are usually announced only a few weeks prior to them happening.

I do think it will still be managable though. I was originally planning a Feb trip, had to cancel, now I'm rethinking May. I was thinking April, but figure I may as well hold out the few extra weeks for the new attractions.

When I booked my room for May 18-22 and asked about the 50th, the cm told me that I was the first person to ask her about it.

It's an 18-month long event that starts a month before school lets out for the summer. I doubt that families will go out of their way to be there right as the event begins.

Crowds may see some bump due to locals trying out the new attractions. Of course, it appears that Lights, Motors, Action will be open well before May, so that will certainly help spread things out.

Regarding the press events that kilee mentioned, I'd be surprised if they are actually held the very first week of the month. 5/5 is a Thursday, and my guess is that they will have the main press event staged in Anaheim that week. Perhaps something in Florida will follow a week or two later.
