Will Leave A Legacy Always Be Around?

I was reading in my Birbaum's 2003 guidebook today. It says that Leave A Legacy may not be permanent. Does this mean that it won't be something you can always purchase or does it mean it won't always be located where it is? I really want to do this for my daughters this trip. However, if it's only going to be there for the next five to ten years, does that make me a sucker?

I was under the impression it was now permanent. Even if it only last 5-10 years for less than $30 it isn't very costly when figured over the years.

When they first started it, we inquired and was told that it was "most likely not going to be permanent. It is not like the stones that are a permanent fixture. I wish they still sold them.

I was under the impression that they were NOT going to be permanent. That they would be around for a few years and then be removed.

Personally, and this is just my opinion, sorry to all who like the Leave a Legacy tiles, but I think the stone pillars the tiles are mounted on are incredibly tacky and the sooner they are removed from the front of SSE the better.

i don't find the tiles tacky at all! i think it's kind of neat to walk around and look at some of them.

i don't know if they will be permanent or not...

i do wish they would sell the stones again though. i really wanted to have one!

i agree with disney845. i think they're really ugly. :o

They say they can and may take them down at any time. The same with the contract for the "Walk Around the World" bricks. I think the Leave a Legacy area looks like a graveyard. :p

Ditto!

The idea of the tiles was good, but to put them on those huge, ugly giant tombstones!!!! Especially right in front of SSE!! Yuk.
I wish they would bring back the gardens for the front of SSE.

We did this with our 2 sons in Feb. We were told (or I read somewhere) that it was guaranteed to be around for 20 years... I'll have to look through the information I have to confirm this, but I'm now guessing they said it was guaranteed to be on display for 20 years. In other words they may move it to a different location but still be on display.

It cost us 22.50 (25 dollars - 10%) and there was no tax added. Just the flat 22.50. They send you 2 copys of the picture(small clear sheets with a 1" square replica of the photo on it along with the Logo and the location key to help you locate it.

It takes a couple of weeks or months for your picture to be added to the monument. But it's fun give the location key (its a long series of numbers such as: West 12-39-12-A-34) to friends and family and have them locate it. It will also be fun to look at it when we return next year and for years to come.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not sure what we will do with this then. I think they are kind of neat to look at. It would be really neat if my children could take their children back to look at them, though. Doesnt' sound likely.

To me, only a few of the pics look nice. Most of them look like a blur. Do you get to see a preview of what the pic will actually look like?

They do show you a preview and you can ask for a retake (we did).

There is no sequence to the pictures though. I am thrilled, we somehow ended up dead center of the front row. (We just purchased in Feb 03) I had forgotten my locator number and they had losed already. People who purchased 2 weeks before us were in the back right corner. Go figure. I'm happy though my DD and Dn can see it. I don't know how happy I would be to be at the top of one of the tall ones though

I AGREE! I think they are sooo ugly. If they were going to do them, they should have made them bigger so you could actually see the pictures

A recent mailing from the Disney Club had an article about the Leave a Legacy tiles. The article ended: "It gives Guests the opportunity to create a lasting record of the special times shared on their Walt Disney World vacation for generations to come."

That being said, I think if they tried to get rid of the Leave a Legacy tiles too soon, they would have too many complaints about it. I wouldn't be surprised if they moved them to a less prominent location at somepoint, though.

I'm planning on getting one in a couple of weeks because it is one of the choice options on my Dream Maker Silver Package. I won't have time to go to Planet Hollywood, and I don't want to go mini-golfing, so it that is the option I'll choose.
