Will laundry service clean everything?

We haven't used the on board cleaning service too much, since we generally bring enough clothes for the entire cruise. However, we're about to go on the 15 day Panama Canal, so we expect to use the cleaning service more than before.

I know they clean shirts, pants, suits, dresses, etc. How about ordinary laundry items (t-shirts, underwear, socks)? Will they do those for us too? I think on a cruise we don't want to spend any time at all watching self-service washers and dryers, and it would be nice to be able to pack fewer clothes if we can get everything cleaned through room service.

They also have onboard laundramats that passengers can do their own laundry. Works well for our family of 5. DW took an hour a couple of times to get it done and we did not pack nearly as much. (still packed too much though!)
One recommendation is to bring your own laundry soap. DW packs it along in single-use sized zip lock bags. (As I mentioned on a previous post on another thread, customs may initially think your 'white powder' is something else;))

If I remember correctly, they will launder anything for a price. Even socks & underwear.

HTHs! I'm going on a 5-Nighter on the 25th, so I can bring back a pricelist for you from the Wonder if you'd like.

Yes.... they clean 'everything'... and very quickly!:goodvibes We did the Panama Canal and I packed for a week. We did clothes and had the service do the more formal wear.

Enjoy this cruise! It is fantastic!:)

Yep--everything. The only things I wash myself during a cruise are stockings, bras and swimsuits.

We are also going on the Panama Cruise and wondered the same thing. The price list that the FAQ has lists the prices for the underwear and socks, but I was more curious about the logistics. Some one on our Dismeet thread said they have sent the underwear and socks out and they came back no problem. My DH just came back from a business trip that was extended so he had to send the stuff out through their laundry service and his underwear and socks came back folded in a bag. I wonder if this is the same on the ship

There is a plastic laundry bag hanging in your closet much like you'll find at hotels. Simply put what you want washed into it and leave it in your cabin for your cabin steward with a note saying you'd like the items laundered. There is a turnaround time - at least a day, sometimes "two days" if you miss the cutoff time for turn in on the day you hand it over.

When it's done, it will be returned to your cabin and your onboard account will show the charge for it. And yes, it will be returned to you very neatly - not just shoved into a laundry basket like I do for DH. :rotfl:

It can get pretty darn pricey to have them launder your underwear and jammies and stuff. Way simpler just to toss a load of that stuff in the self service laundry. I'd throw in a load, take the aft elevator (this was on deck 2 and late at night) up to a higher deck and just read in one of the elevator 'lobby' chairs till it was time to ride back down and switch it over to the dryer and go back up and read. Our cabin was forward and this was much nicer than running back and forth to the cabin. :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone! We can't wait, and like it that we can pack a bit less (to save on an airline baggage check fee ugh!) and not have to worry about running a laundry load while on vacation :) Mexican Riviera here we come!

With the prices they charge on board to do each piece; I'm not sure you would be saving any money.

$1.00 for a pair of socks -- $2.50 for a T-shirt

Here is a copy of their laundry slip. That should answer your question about prices and help you decide what you might want to do:

I totally agree with you! We use the laundry service while we cruise. Gives us more time to enjoy the ship. :thumbsup2

Instead of the plastic bag in the closet there is now a canvas bag to put your laundry in. We left the bag on the bed each day and the room steward took care of getting this to the laundry service.

Enjoy your cruise!

My bad! Forever a Princess is completely right. The bag is a canvas one now and you can even purchase one to take home if you like it! :thumbsup2

Yes, they'll do everything. I always let them do all of my laundry. Sure it's more expensive than using the machines (though I think less expensive than the cost at a high end hotel), but you'd have to do an awful lot of laundry to match a few bingo games or even a moderate bar bill - it's a luxury, but worth it. :cool2:

With those prices it would be outrageous for a family. :crazy2: I'd easily reach $100-200 on a 7 nt cruise. I'd rather do my own and plunk that $ down on a future cruise instead. To each his own. :goodvibes

You send it, they'll clean it. I send it all out - underwear and everything else. Send most everything out for ironing the first day too. Didn't do that for years - packed for the week, ironed when we got onboard, and dealt with crowds and heat and sometimes ugly situations in the laundry room - not *my* situations, LOL - I'm very non-confrontational but I still don't like to see or hear it. Then midway through the Panama Canal cruise I said "no more" - I'd had enough of spending time doing laundry on my cruise, though I must say that on that cruise I met lots of lovely people in the laundry room. So anyway, I sent it out. It came back. Magic! Wonderful system, LOL! So now I budget money for laundry just like I do for the tips and my daily afternoon espresso chiller. Not doing laundry makes my vacation better. I don't feel guilty and I don't consider it a waste of money. In fact, I feel I've earned it. I've been doing laundry for my family for 27+ years and I'm surely not complaining - I'm one of those weirdos who enjoys doing laundry. It's my favorite household chore, LOL! I just don't want to do it on my cruise.

That said, the upcoming back-to-back has some 'built-in' laundry time so I hope to do our unders, pjs, and swim suits between the time I get my new KTTW and the 2nd cruise boards. I'll still be sending out everything else... love the way it comes back, in the cute little gingham-lined wicker basket. :-)

And, I don't know if they always do this but a couple times I've used a special deal to get laundry done the day before the cruise ends - the Navigator announced 50% off laundry charges on either Thursday or Friday. Used that and got off the ship with no dirty duds! That was nice but in most cases I wouldn't go that far.

Thanks Deb... that's a good tip...

Be prepared on the PC repo though... it will be a full ship and the laundry rooms can get MIGHTY busy...

We ended up doing our wash at 2 am... we made parties out of it... ordered room service to our room, went and got drinks from deck 9 and went from there.

I can't believe the prices for drycleaning!!!!!! So CHEAP!!! :thumbsup2

In the UK the cost of drycleaning a suit would be about $13!!!

Definately going to get my dresses done and I will make OH bring his DJ (tux), now, he was wondering whether to bother!.

I quite agree. Last cruise we did, we had the 50% offer too so all the formal/semi formal went to laundry for a fraction of the price I would have had to pay when I got home :)
