Will L.L. Bean backpacks go on sale?

I'm thinking they won't, but I can't remember since DS has had his 2 or 3 years. I need to get one for DS2. I checked their "outlet" and there was nothing there he was interested in. FWIW, he wants the red Original.

I don't think they put them on sale often if at all. But they are WAY worth the full price. They have a lifetime warranty, and really will take a beating. I am going into my senior year of college and still using one I had in highschool

Thanks, that's pretty much what I thought, but one can always hope! We bought on for DS1 a few years ago, and it's been GREAT, but I need to get one for DS2 now.

They do eventually go on sale each year, but it is in the late winter. If you can wait that long, you may get lucky. Usually, the more *exotic* colors and patterns are the ones on sale, but...

The full warranties are still in effect, even for sale backpacks. Good luck - we would NEVER buy a different brand of backpack - sadly, we've tried others on occasion (silly us!) but always come back to LLBean ones. They're well worth the full price (gulp!), but it feels great to snag one on clearance!!!

Please tell me this, as I am not familiar with their guarantee policy and never heard of it until I read about it on this board.... If I purchase a backpack now and by the end of the school year it has a hole in it, will they replace it? This happens to us every year. We have to use the mesh backpacks and I get the Nike, or Underarmour (those are the ones the kids like) and they are not cheap!!! $30-$40 each and I have to throw them out every year!!! Does the LL Bean warranty cover that type of damage?

Yes, my understanding is that it would be covered. My older DS has used his LL Bean for 2 years, and it looks brand new. Not the hint of a tear, rip, or anything else, other than the tiny black marker line across one of the pockets on the back.

Also, I'm not familiar with "mesh" backpacks - like a pp mentioned. Don't know what these look like or if Bean carries them - their backpacks are made of a tough fabric, and last accordingly.

After reading this, I went to LLBean to check the prices, expecting them to be sky high! I thought that $27 for the backpack your son wants is very reasonable ... especially for a pack that you can get 2-3 years of use out of. I think I spent more than that on my DD's Jansport last year.

You should get a LOT more use than that out of the LLBean backpacks - two of my kids are all on at least the 4th year of theirs - one DD is in college and still has her 9th grade Bean backpack! All look practically brand-new.

One DD did have to return her (new) rolling Bean one last year - the wheel part did not hold up and we got the full price returned and she went back to the regular Bean backpack.

They really aren't kidding when they tell you to "choose your color carefully...you'll have this backpack for awhile!"

Around us the Outlet will have them on sale after school starts.

I agree for how long they last a great price. I have the LLBean CC - so free monogramming and shipping. We had initials put on it so they can find them easily. Last year I bought them LL Bean fliptop lunchboxes. AWESOME! no seams easy to clean and we will use them again this year. I have never done that with a Target/Walmart lunchbox.

That would ABSOLUTELY be covered. They would give you a brand new backpack if something like that happened. It probably won't though. I still have the LL Bean backpack that I carried for 3 years of high school and 4 years of college and it doesn't have any holes! (and I graduated college in 1995!)

My DS got his first LL bean backpack last year for preschool and he'll be carrying that thing until he needs a bigger one. Hopefully he'll get a good 5 years out of it!

I used mine thru high school, college and even travelled in Europe with it after I was married!!

Robin, I agree the price isn't bad, but things are getting tighter around here, and I'm always looking for a sale!

On a side note, my mom called me and said she found a great yard sale on Saturday--she got my 6-yo 10 pairs of jeans for school, Old Navy & Gap (we aren't brand particular, but we don't pass them up either!) that look new, and a bag of shirts for the boys for $15!!!

We are ordering a backpack from LL Bean too for dd kindergarten. I figure she'll be using it forever. I still have my one from college, and I graduated in 2000. It looks awesome, we've even dragged it to disney several times. I have the card so I have it monogrammed for free. It's so worth it b/c it has free shipping and free returns too.
