Will it be too cold to swim in the pool in the beginning of December?

We have booked 2 nights stay at Beach Club after our holiday cruise. Is it too cold to take advantage of the fantastic pool? We are from Wisconsin. Thank you!

Ya never know - we go every year the first week of December- some years it was freezing cold, some years pleasantly mild and some years really warm…my best advice is to pack for all climates and enjoy!

Unless the weather is unusual, it won’t be too cold to sit poolside.

But since you’ll be coming off a cruise, it might be a big temperature difference.

30?!😬my bottom line is 70😅
In early December, normal daytime highs are in the mid-70s, warm enough for sitting poolside (if there's isn't a strong breeze). But there is the odd day when the water parks are closed due to unusually cold weather. It's not the kind of a day I'd want to spend at Stormalong Bay.

Considering you're staying at the Beach Club for only 2 nights, all it takes is a couple of bad days of weather to wreck any Stormalong Bay plans you have.

P.S. We have experienced 80-degree weather during Christmas week (great poolside weather), and yet have had to wear jackets in late November. You just cannot be sure what you're going to get.

I went last year Dec 11-14. The days were HOT. I think it was mid-80s, which gets uncomfortable when you are sitting or waiting on line in the direct sunlight. The mornings and evenings got chilly, but if we did a pool day in the afternoon we would have been fine. But I also used to live in Orlando the weather can really vary and be hard to predict. I remember one winter (I think 2009-2010 or 2010-2011) broke records for being the coldest the area has ever seen, and we got frost and sleet. I remember hearing about crops that froze in the area and there were some produce shortages. But, compared to Wisconsin it was nothing. So play it by ear, and maybe have a backup plan like a day at Disney Springs just in case.

I couldn’t agree more with above. I pack everything from sweatshirts and jeans to bathing suits and shorts that time of year. We’ve had afternoons/evenings where I was in layers and others swimming. Hopefully your two days are full of high temps and sun! Enjoy it!

Thank you for your input. We booked Beach Club mainly because of the pool and the location been close to EPCOT, which we hope to experience Candle Processional and GotG. We plan to visit DS before cruise and also doing MVMCP. Thankfully, the park reservation system has changed, we probably could add HS or AK if it’s too cold to take advantage of the pool.

Yes!!! Last year I think we only swam about 3-4 days total from Thanksgiving through the week after. Christmas week through New Years Day we swam every single day!! Weather was so beautiful! So strange!!

Beach club is the WORST resort pool to do in winter because if you do have a chilly day, that pool is so huge it isn't heated very effectively. We were there in November for a single-day post-cruise stay a couple of years ago on a day where the high was in the low 50s. We didn't even attempt a swim and just walked over to Epcot and bought park tickets instead (we also had to buy sweaters from the gift shop... that was an expensive day, lol). On another trip, we had a cooler day in the low 70s and did try to swim that day. Stormalong bay felt like taking a shower when your water heater is broken, it was painfully cold. We ended up swimming in the quiet pool and hot tubs only.

You could get lucky and get a warm day. But it's definitely luck of the draw.

Like you, we were at the Beach Club last November. The weather was in the mid 70s. It was ok on the Stormalong Bay pool deck but, as you note, the water was too cool to enjoy.

The water in the much smaller DVC pool felt noticeably warmer. We ended up spending the last two days there.

It's unpredictable, but as I recall, I have been swimming in the pool at Animal Kingdom two times out of the last three January 1's (Michigander). I always pack suits. When we went to the water parks in February, the cast members were often asking for our zip codes. I imagine that the North was more strongly represented. I agree with the people who have said that coming from Wisconsin, you'll be fine. But there is an off-hand chance that it will be too cold.

It’s never too cold, if you want to swim. The pool is nice and warm. Getting out is the hard part. Lol.
It is if the pool is closed. I know they have a temp at which they don't open them but I can't recall what it is. It's colder than you'd think though. I've been at Disney quite a few times when it was too cold to open the pool so as such, too cold to swim.

Now, that wasn't in early December. Late December, various days in January, even early March one year when it was so bad they had damage to the opening of Flower and Garden topiaries.

I've decided that from now on, when I head down from Dec to oh April or so, we'll bring a wrap to wear to the pool and back. Good time to make sure you book a resort with a hot tub too.
