Will it be enough?

I have an 8 year old DD. She is big for her age. Not overweight, but has always been the tallest of her age group, and is always mistaken for 2-3 years older. She is also very active with an appetite to match. I am worried that the kids meal will not satisfy her. When we go out to eat at Burger King for example she gets the Jr Whopper value meal.

Also do they really get sugar free Jello for dessert and carrots instead of fries? I know it is healthier, but we are on vacation. She likes carrots and eats them, but I know she will be upset if she can not have fries some on vacation. Plus I am very against artifcial sweetners as it is being linked to the increase of Autism, ADHD etc.

Based on your description, plan on the child meals not being sufficient for your DD8. You can purchase whatever you wish for her, OOP (i.e., pay in cash), to supplement what you get for her on the Dining Plan.

That is true. Go ahead and get the plan but buy something more oop if she is still hungry.

Also thinking about it we will probably also eat a lot at the buffets. That way she can pick the more adult type foods instead of eating off the kiddie menu. She would rather have healthy adult food than the kid choices anyway. If she is getting one good meal a day plus the CS and a snack she will be fine I am sure.

And hey, to me 8 seems like a good age for lots of character meals (and they are great because then you don't have to wait in as many lines to get autographs!) Most of these are served either buffet or family style.

There are also some counter service places which don't have kids menus - like toy story pizza (there is a thread about this somewhere here) so you could always try to hit a couple of those.

Also, the adult cs meals tend to be, imho, large (and I am large so this ain't coming from no skinny minny saying after 2 green beans, "Oh I'm stuffed!") so you could probably share some of yours with her.

And if you read the packaging for many of the prepackaged desserts (such as those yummy chocolate cakes) the container is actually 2 servings, so you might consider sharing some of your cake and forgoing the sf jello (or giving the jello away to another family in line). And kids meals can usually choose 2 sides (fries, carrots or grapes) so choose what she's going to prefer.

You could also supplement her meals with some good uses of a snack credit, like adding a soup or other side (many of which are under the $4 mark and count as a snack credit).

Plus I believe you can substitute the carrots/jello for fries if she wants. (On some of the menus it says, "Fries/soft drink available upon request" So that means you just have to ask. HTH

I remember having an abundance of fries on vacation. You can easilly share from your basket:goodvibes

Or.......you can just pay the extra 20 or so dollars(per day)and get her an adult Dining Plan.

That's not always offered, and when it is (and there is an admission purchase requirement), it does involve purchasing adult admission, which is another additional cost.

Plus, remember that your meals will come with appetizer and dessert at TS and a combo plus dessert at CS. You will probably be able to share some of your food with your DD without you going hungry. Plus, there seems never to be a shortage of fries at WDW!

My DD just turned nine. She's a good size--55" and 67#. Some days she eats like the world is coming to an end, other days not so much. Buffets work well for us. She is less interested in kids meal fare these days. Often, she and I will split an appetizer and entree at TS, or a CS combo. (We don't do the DP for this reason.)

There are lots of options. Don't stress--there's plenty to eat at WDW. Enjoy your trip!
