Honestly after looking at pics of WL and Poly and GF I'm feeling kinda sad. MIL booked us rooms at SOG and I am greatful but I'm wondering if SOG is missing that Disney feel. We are getting an awesome rate at SOG but I can't help but feel *drawn*to the other Disney resorts. SOG just looks so *green* :rotfl2: ...military I guess...nothing Disney about it. Please help!!

Sarah....proud mom to 3 pirate: and lovin it!!

Here are some pics of SoG. It reminds me a little of the Wilderness Lodge, though not as impressive as it doesn't have that huge lobby. For the price, location, and surroundings I don't think you will be disappointed.

This last Dec we stayed both at AKL and SOG. Loved both!
At SOG the rooms were big and bright. The difference was we did not have the disney soaps at SOG. As far as the DISNEY feeling it is a bus ride away to any park. I loved the hotel and we are going back in DEC again. The food is reasonable in price and you do not pay tax which can be high in Fl.
Have a great trip!

I understand how you feel! Our first trip to the Shades I was very biased towards "only Disney resorts". We were going with friends who sponsored us so the price was right. But, still...

We loved it! Loved the location between the two golf courses; very serene. This was way back before any renovation. We went back in February to buy our tickets there and, wow, it is beautiful! The rooms are the largest on the property. As a previous poster said, there are no Disney toiletries , but that is the only difference. We liked the transportation better as you do not share buses with any other resorts. No tax on anything. And a Mickey-shaped pool!

Then I got a job with the Dept of Defense and was able to book the Shades myself. We have stayed there numerous times and never had a problem. Even took another "only Disney Resorts" believer once. She and her family returned 2 more times with us!

You cannot beat the price! There are Disney items in the gift shop (not as big a selection as the other resorts) and the other items in the gift shop are much cheaper (meds, drinks, PONCHOS, etc.) at least when we were there. When we went to buy tickets, they had a TV in the lobby with Disney videos playing (just like the WDW resorts).

I really don't think you will be disappointed!

Hey!!! Thanks for the link! I asked on another thread if it had changed since the 80's and it was a Disney (civilian) resort, the Disney Inn. We used to stay there a lot in high school. I'm amazed that it has barely changed at all! I can definitely tell that Disney does not do the themeing or interior design for SoG because as a government contractor, I'm familar with the room design and finishes from many military/government guest lodging facilities worldwide. Looking at the room layout definately brings back memories though! Thanks again!

Thanks guys!! :grouphug: Feeling mcuh better. You are correct it is a bargain price and it does look nice! Mickey pool....that's very cool!! Getting excited now!!

This will be our first time at SOG and I was feeling this way too, so we decided to split our stay between AKL and SOG (I called CRO and happened to have a pin attached to our name :Pinkbounc ) I am bringing our Mickey soaps and Shampoos from previous trips and putting them in the bathroom at SOG to give them more of a disney feel :earboy2: and we rent a car.

I tried to click on the link and it wants an id and password.

We have been going to WDW for over 23 years and have stayed in the Poly, GF, Y&B, many times and PO and WL once. We have also stayed in the Vacation Villas when they were called that. I honestly really like SoG. For years I opted for overflow at the Yacht or Beach and one year I just decided to give it a try. The price was right and the others weren't available for what I wanted to pay. WHAT A PLEASANT SURPRISE! It is quiet, quaint, friendly, the rooms are huge compared to the other deluxe resorts and while they don't have the best food on property, they have the best value at their restaurants. I never found the pool crowded. I can't tell you how many times I have had to scour Stormalong Bay, even for an upright pool side chair. We are going back for the first time in almost 3 years and I happily chose SoG and didn't even concern myself this time with "overflow rooms".

I've stayed at WDW resorts and SOG and I have loved SOG! I would (and will) stay there again in a heartbeat. It is very peaceful there and the rooms are a wonderful size. Have a great trip! :wizard:

Ive been to Beach Club twice and I prefer the rooms at SOG to them. I like the location of Beach Club better I just wish SOG was closer to that area. I dont understand what Disney Feel is myself. At Beach CLub you ar ein a resort with noce wall paper and buses that say Disney on the side of the bus and soap with micky on the box. Maybe thats Disney Feel? We had never felt undisney at Shades , I did miss the soap with Mickey on the box but it was a beautiful place to sleep.
