I am going to be going to Kona Cafe on an upcoming trip, due in large part to its praise on the disboards :sunny: . My question is will I like the Tonga Toast? I am not a HUGE fan of bananas. I guess my opinion of them is neutral. I do not love them, I do not hate them. What do y'all think?? TIA! :goodvibes :sunny:

You will only know by trying it yourself. :confused3

We love it but it is very sweet and rich.

I enjoyed it the one time I had Tonga Toast. I do like bananas and cinnamon. As you know, Tonga Toast is stuffed with bananas and it is heavily sprinkled with cinnamon/sugar. It was sweet enough for me to not put anything on it, but some poured syrup on theirs.

It is so sweet it can send you into diabetic shock. Bananas, sugar, deep fried. What is there not to love - or alternatively think it is the grossest thing you've ever eaten.....

If you like sweatness you will love it.

My wife tried the Tonga Toast last year and reported that it was too sweet for her. And she has a "sweet tooth" for sure. Most people on these boards rave about it though. Give 'er a shot!

It is very sweet ~ So the only way you will know if you like it is by trying it.

RFC in AK also does Tonga Toast for breakfast.

That depends on your answer to several questions:
Do you like filet mignon?
Do you like french fries?
Do you like oatmeal?
Do you like hot dogs?
Do you like corned beef and cabbage?
Do you like carrots?
Do you like swordfish?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may like Tonga Toast.

I'm a sweet-a-holic and thought the Tonga Toast was too sweet and rich (but I have to put a little butter and syrup on French Toast, or why bother to order it). I'm also not a big banana fan.

I would eat it again if with someone else who was getting eggs and we were going to split the meal. Or split with someone and get a fruit cup. A little bit of it and some other food would be much better for me.

I don't know if this is possible or not, but a few years ago some people posted that they requested a different fruit and got strawberries. I'd REALLY be interested in trying that (still would split the order). But, I don't know that the chef is willing or able to accomodate that request.

I just heard about some pineapple macadamia nut pancakes with macadamia nut butter at Kona and I'm seriously contemplating that.

I do not particularly like banana's (I'm sort of "neutral" on them too I guess) but I LOVED the tonga toast. I found it the perfect amount of sweetness -no syrup necessary for me.

I'm not a sweets person, especially at breakfast. But I *had* to try the Tonga Toast. I loved it! Not something I could do on a regular breakfast, but it's definitely something I'll do again.

I don't like it...but I also don't like fried/grilled bananas so if you like grilled bananas you will like it!

you will love Tonga Toast if you slather it in butter before wolfing it down and offering to help your kids finish theirs....

at least that's what I've heard :rotfl:

It's easy for me to O.D. on sweets, but I liked it a lot :) I have since switched to eggs benedict at Kona, but I will have the Tonga Toast again one day:earsboy:

I have to say, I am not one for sweets but for some reason, I think I would LOVE this!! I love bananas. We have ressies for breakfast at Kona in Sept. and I am definitly trying this one!!!

I didn't care for it--just too rich and too sweet for me. If you like that kind of thing for breakfast, you may enjoy it.

I gave it a try after hearing so many people talk about it. I love french toast and I love bananas, but I found the Tonga Toast too sweet for my taste.
