I am going to be going to Kona Cafe on an upcoming trip, due in large part to its praise on the disboards :sunny: . My question is will I like the Tonga Toast? I am not a HUGE fan of bananas. I guess my opinion of them is neutral. I do not love them, I do not hate them. What do y'all think?? TIA! :goodvibes :sunny:

I can't tell you for sure whether you will like Tonga Toast but I feel the same way about bananas. I don't usually like banana flavored food but I love Tonga Toast. I think the bread is deep fried and dipped in a cinnamon sugar coating. There is a hole in the middle where the bananas are. I had no idea of what to expect when I ordered it. It is quiet large. I didn't realize it was so big when I ordered it. If you are going with someone you may want to share it or have someone order something else you like as well and share both items.

Maybe you will, maybe you will not.

Hi :)

I kind of feel the same way about bananas as you and the other poster...not a big fan of them added to my food...but I had to give Tonga Toast a try.

I think you should try it, too. If you really don't like the banana part of it, the edges are pretty much void of banana and VERY deep friend and cinnamon-sugary!

Here's a picture of my order of Tonga toast (bottom right):

There is no way to tell you whether or not you'll like it. I can tell you that I hated it and everyone I know IRL to try it thought it was greasy, fatty, and disgusting. How's that for honest? ;) It was dripping in grease and loaded with sugar. Blech. There are a few people on here that don't care for it, either, I've found - you can do a search. I took 3 bites and felt icky. DH ate about half, he's the one who LOVES sugar, but felt ill the rest of the morning. It's very heavy. My DSis made the mistake of ordering it a few weeks ago on her trip and picked a couple bites at it and had the waitress take it because she couldn't handle even looking at it.

My advice is to share it between a few people so everyone gets a taste. I can't imagine how anyone can eat it for their entire breakfast, personally, but can see if you like super sweet, greasy food that you could eat part of it with the rest of your breakfast. Or maybe there are stronger people than me out there, LOL!

We enjoyed breakfast at Kona but did not enjoy the beloved Tonga Toast. Since you'll have tons of people come tell you how much you'll love it, I wanted to give my opinion since I thought I would love it too... I ordered it because of the reviews on here.

Just goes to show that there is something out there for everyone! =)

I love the stuff, but it is very rich and filling. Another great fav of mine is the pineapple macadamia nut pancakes, yum! Enjoy!
