I really want to like HHI. It is close enough to drive to , and I love the beach. However, it is not ON the beach. Will bringing things to and from the beach be a hassle? I don't golf. I'm not really a camper. I like nature and nature things. I am going to try this resort in the month of November. Can I still take the kayak tour, or will it be too cold. I'm hoping others will chime in and help me know what to expect. I really want to like this resort.

We were there for our first time last month and had a great time. The resort is fabulous. Many oak trees surrounding the grounds, directly on the marsh and very peaceful. If you are driving there shouldn't be a problem with bringing what you need for the beach. It is only one mile away. We rode our bikes there and we loved it. Have fun...I know you will:goodvibes

November is NOT prime time there. It's a little far north.

Now while I will be FLAMED for this I don't really like DVC at HHI. I LOVE HH and am looking at buying a Marriott TS there, but the DVC location just does nothing for me. I want to be CLOSE to the beach not a bus ride away!

Hi Hope, I understand where you are coming from. We're pretty much the same distance as you and driving to HHI (a long trip for sure) is quite inviting. I have only been there in the summer months, but summer months on the beach are overwhelmingly crowded (IMHO) so we end up going to the beach at first low tide after dawn to explore the many ponds of wildlife that are waiting for the tide to come back in. We are bird lovers and the abundance of birds is wonderful. I would imagine kayaking in November would still be comfortable, but don't know if the tours would still be operating. I think you all will have a nice time there.

If you want info on kayaking and other "outdoor" tours in Nov, check this website. I know they have contact info.

The website says the 2 hours tour goes 365 days a year!

agreed- we stayed for a quick night last March....not much to do,seemed very un-resort like to us- one tiny store that closed early....once you get to the beach,it's pretty-the marsh area is lovely at night-and the rooms are big- but just didn't 'feel' Disney....but that's our opinion,I know many seem to like it....

We own at HHI for the main purpose of going during the summer (July-early Aug). I can't imagine HH in the off season, so can't say much there. What we like the most about HHI is this. When I was a kid, my family used to go camping all around the US. It was great fun, pretty rustic. When our family went to HHI two years ago, the Disney resort there felt very much like that camping vacation experience, but with a very comfortable and spacious living situation. So we get all the wonder of the great outdoors and nature, bike riding, watersports, the beach, the marsh, the peace and quiet, the glorious nights on the balcony.....and a very comfy Villa to boot.

Carol is right, this is not a beach vacation....I feel it is like Camping in great Comfort! JMHO. We love it! I love seeing my girls growing up with the sunkissed face of being with nature....just like my husband and I did growing up.

Enjoy, Diane

I usually go during Christmas week and always enjoy it. I have gone kayaking each time I was down there and it was great fun. I assume that if they have kayaking in late December they have it in November.

If your idea of a great place is walking out of your resort onto the beach, this is not the place. It is like living in a little fishing resort surrounded by native plants, flowers and birds. If you have a room near the pool you can slide right into the hottub first thing in the morning and also in the evening.

The Beach house is a five minute drive or bus ride on a shared private road. It has a pool, bar and a fast food and access to the beach. Many people rent a bicycle for their stay and ride them down a paved path to the beach house.

I think you have to know yourself and what you enjoy. If being right smack dab on the beach is the most important thing to you then you may not be happy.

We bought HHI because we are more into nature/woodsy than into theme parks so we figured we would go to HHI more than WDW. Bought sight unseen and have not regretted it yet. We loved HHI our first time there. We would drive over to the beach house in the morning and leave when it started getting too hot or crowded. But we also aren't huge beach people. A couple hours of the beach is fine but we never spend an entire day.

Although I can't say if you'll love it, I can tell you that I'm also a nature lover who loves Hilton Head in large part because of the nature. I just love walking around the resort admiring the birds in the trees and watching for dolphins. I love walking around Pinckney Island Refuge and Sea Pines Forest Preserve. Hopefully, you'll love it too.

Thanks for the info. I have this bookmarked. I really like nature, and so does my husband. I am planning for Nov. because we don't plan to do the "beach" thing this trip. I was hoping for a "fall" retreat with the leaves changing colors, touring the grounds, the nature tours. Would like to go to Charleston for the day. I was even going to bring my crockpot for the studio for some "fall" type of cooking. I am trying to avoid the crowds and traffic. It seems like HHI would be a fit for this, or this could just be wishful thinking.

Perrrrrfect!

I am so glad to find this thread because we are considering booking in March of 09 and I know it is still not prime time at HHI. I was a little put off by the low temps, but I am hoping the nature surrounding the place will still be amazing and that we'll be able to enjoy the campfires, fishing and excursions. I want to take my step dad and mom too because I know he will love the place! I would really be interested in reading more great things - especially from people who go there in the fall/spring months! I'm curious about the Unbirthday Party if anyone has info on that too! TIA

My husband and I love HHI. We actually own at BCV & SSR, but we've never been, we've only ever been to HHI several times and Vero once. We love HHI hands down. We don't have kids, so we go in the off season. The first trip was early Dec and really cold, but we still enjoyed our trip. We've have visited in February, March, April, October and December. We were there Easter this year and it was GEORGEOUS!!!!, I already want to go end of March, early April next year.

Our purpose for going to the island is too just relax. We don't hardly do anything. We don't golf, we might go the the Beach or Beach House if it is nice enough. We visit the outlet (great outlets!) and we ALWAYS visit Savannah, which is about an hour away. It's great for a day trip. The Giuseppe's pizza in Shelter Cove is mouth watering. We just really love it. I would almost want to sell my other points for HHI, except BCV has a much higher renting power.

So glad to read your post! This trip is just myself and the hubby. Maybe I will go to Savannah instead of Charleston (sounds like it is closer). Outlets? I didn't know they had them! And we're planning the 2 hr. kayak tour. I'm hoping the first week of Nov. will still be ok...I'll take upper 50's, any 60's temps.!:wizard:

We've stayed at HHI more than any other DVC location. The fact that it's 35 miles from home does help, but, it's a beautiful place and very quiet compared to the rest of HHI. We've only stayed during the late Fall/Winter seasons, but, next year we plan on going in late March. We may be able to go swimming even!

Anytime is good for Kayaking around here. We hope to take ours for use for our Chirstmas stay (we got a Grand Villa for Christmas day!).

Don't forget to come over to Savannah!

I went to HHI for the first time last week.
I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did. In fact I LOVE it!
I'm from Oregon, so unfortunately, not an easy place to go.
I kept thinking how lucky those who live closer are to have such a great place to vacation.
In Oregon we have ocean, mountains and desert.
What I loved about HHI was the feeling of having all three in one spot.
I know, no mountains, but the "feel" of the resort and the fishing and kayaking opportunites seemed like it to me. We have a place in the desert called Sun River that reminded me of the biking trails, community feel, and golf experiences that it has, without the dust!
And having the ocean ( a warm ocean, the PNW ocean is COLD) was the icing on the cake.
Like I said, I'm really envious of you that live closer!
Oh, and having Savannah a short drive away even makes it more devine.
