I am seriously thinking about taking another DCL cruise this March. The only hangup is that my husband does not want to go. He did not like our Wonder cruise and feels that he would rather do something else with his vacation time. He gets much less time away from his job than I do...so I was thinking about taking my 15 and 7 year old by myself. My other son, 13, will be in England with his school. Do you think I will have a good time? Anyone tried this??

While on our 7-day western two years ago, we were standing in line in Cozumel to reboard. The mom (and her two kids) in front of me handed her cell-phone to the kids and said, 'let's hurry up and call Daddy while we can." (I guess so they wouldn't lose the signal.) The kids (appeared to be about 9 and 11) called and eagerly told them about the excursions, etc. They all had big smiles, and were trying to share as much as they could. It appeared to me that they were having a really good time. It was spring break, and there appeared to be other families without Dad.

I'm just curious though, what did your DH not like about the Wonder cruise? Was it 'rushed?' Some people enjoy the 7-day better than the shorter cruises. Or is your DH just not into cruising? My brother doesn't like cruises either.

My DH does not want to go on a Disney cruise so I took DS 10 and DD 15 on the Western. We had a great time - we are planning another DCL cruise - and Dad is still not coming. If your husband doesn't enjoy it it can be a downer. We had more fun without DH! His idea of a great vacation is an isolated cabin in the middle of the woods.... so we go have our kind of fun! So yes you can have funny without hubby.

I'd take my kids without DH and never look back! ;) Time spent with just Mom is every bit as valuable as family time... especially for your 15 year old. Our kiddos grow up way too fast.

I'm a single mom and so have taken my son on many vacations alone.
On our first cruise though we invited my girlfriend, whose husband hates
to travel, and her son, who is my son's best friend. We had a great time
together.
You will too! Or you may think about inviting along another friend or
relative for adult companionship. And don't forget these cruise meets!
You can meet up with some of your fellow cruisers!
Plan that trip! You'll have a great time! :earsboy:

Thanks for the encouragment! My husband did not like the Wonder because he felt there were too many kids! :confused3 I know! We sailed on the Wonder the day after Hurricane Jeanne and since we live in South Florida we were really in a state of shock at the time. Neither one of us was relaxed enough to enjoy the cruise and it was cut short by one day. He realizes this but since he can only get away about three weeks a year he does not want to "chance" it again and find he still is not happy on DCL.

I am going to do this! With just me and two of my kids we can book a cheaper room, perhaps inside, and go for 7 nights.

GreatDaneMom, you are so right! It will be good to get my 15 year old son away without his 13 year old brother to fight with. My little girl keeps begging to go back on DCL. She did not like the kids club the first time but I really think she was clingy to me because of all the evacuations and hurricane trauma.

go for it I say! I do many trips to wdw with the kids during the year since dh is on shift and we have a blast. granted we wish he could come but it doesnt stop us from having fun. if dh didnt like DCL as much as he does after our 1st cruise- I wouldnt hesitate taking the kids on my own! have a great time

Lookingforward - Just do it! I am a single mom & took my 2 DS's (ages 9 & 12) on the Wonder 5/26-5/29. We had a blast & definitely a trip of a lifetime!
We drove down from North Carolina & even that was a great trip. I have never taken the boys far away like this & it was also the 1st cruise for all of us, so at least you know what to expect, more or less.
I wish you the very best & hope you have a great time!

I'd take my kids without DH and never look back!
:rotfl: My DH is going to be with us, but he doesn't really want to go, so I have a feeling I'm going to be like a single mom on our cruise!

Go and have a ball.

Go for it.. you will have a great time.. there is so much to do and enjoy for all of you. i would think that it would be fun..

BTW if you go on the 7 day Western March 25th, come and join our thread.

I say definately do it! :cool1: Think how relaxing :cloud9: it will be! Hmmmmm......... a cruise without DH......what a thought! My DH can be such a "stick in the mud". :teeth: :teeth:
Hope all is well in your part of Florida. :sunny:

We just did it w/o DH because he had to cancel due to work as well (I said, "sorry YOU can't go, but we're still going")....was one of the best vacations we've ever had (my kids are 5 & 10). DCL worked well for us as they could do the kids club, swim or do family things w/me (which is most of what we did)... and then they could see the night show after dinner. I did not do any club stuff at night as I don't want to leave them alone in the room.

Taking me DD 13 on the repo cruise. Rest of the family can't/won't go for various reasons, but that is not stopping us. We are looking forward to some serious mother daughter time.

Let him have his cabin the woods to each his own.

Lookingforward, just wanted to say that I wouldn't hesitate booking an inside cabin if you can then go on a longer cruise. After six cruises with a porthole DH and I booked a Cat. 12. I thought that I might be spoiled and really miss the porthole but the inside room was just fine. Of course we prefer the porthole but we wouldn't hesitate to book an inside room again if we had to. Go and have a blast!

My ds and I went on a rccl cruise over spring break this year--just the two of us as dh couldn't get away from work. We had a great time. He spent a lot of time in the tween/teen club and I used that time to go to the gym, lounge by pool, go to the classes, etc. We enjoyed excursions and most meals together as well as many of the onboard activities. We had an inside room, which was great for us as we are only in our room to sleep and change clothes. :flower:
