Will I be tortured????

I wouldn't spend the cash for FW for a few days if you do'nt plan on going to the parks. There are plenty of other campgrounds in the area that are a lot less expensive and offer similar amenities.

Here's one in the area: http://www.floridastateparks.org/lakelouisa/default.cfm

You should be able to see the MK fireworks from many spots in this park/campground.

Gotta disagree with most of the posters here. I am a FW camper. I am a seasonal passholder. I have often camped at FW during my blackout period and have stayed out of the parks.

During the day we swim, rent water mice, do pony rides, play bingo. We ride the ferry to the Monorail which we then ride around the lagoon.

At night we do the campfire and watch the movie. Some nights we go down to the marina for the EWP and MK Fireworks.

I've never stayed at another campground for $38 a night that offerred me all these amenities. Not to mention the nicest comfort station I've ever seen.

I think you should go and have a good time just enjoying FW. The campgrounds are beautiful and they do have a lot of great activities (movies, games, swimming, etc). Try and get down to Downtown Disney and catch a movie (not that expensive) and dinner at Earl of Sandwich (again not expensive) one night and go down to the beach at FW and watch the fireworks.

Also, if everyone else wants to do something else, what about you hopping the boat alone one day and hitting the MK? Just a thought. You can definately stay at FW and have a great time and get a LOT of the WDW flavor without busting the bank. Enjoy.

I agree, it is a top notch camp facility and a bargain at $38. :thumbsup2

Lake Louisa Park is nice, but it's not exactly convenient to the attractions area. Factor in at least a 20 minute drive to Disney, 30 to US or SW if you stay out there (driving on Hwy 27 is an E-Ticket ride, that's for sure!) and more if you get caught in traffic. I can see Lake Louisa Park from where I live. On the plus side, if you want to spend some time away from the tourist area, it's a good spot, close to a grocery for supplies as well.

Personally, since you may be going to US/IOA or SW from the campground, I think FW would be the most centrally located.

Lake Louisa? Ugh. The spots there have no shade. Its all scrub bushes. Its also on the run down side. It can not be compared to FW.

I have to agree with certain posters, I'd still go even if I wouldn't be doing any parks. You are IN disney world right? I like all the suggestions that have been given but would like to add one more: How about going to view wishes from the Poly beach one evening? It would give you a feel of the MK and would not cost anything.

We are going to WDW soon and out of 10 days, we have 4 theme park days planned. We will also go to Sea World and the waterparks. No biggie for us, we will still get to enjoy ''ALL'' that WDW can offer. FW is a beautiful campground, I think your family will love it.

If worse comes to worse, and you really need to hit at least one park, why not go by yourself? The rest of your gang could just hang out and relax at the pool. That way, everyone would be happy.

Have fun!

I say go and enjoy the time in Florida. We have often stayed a week at a WDW resort and visited the parks only 2 times. Sometimes we just want to stay at the Disney resorts because they are so well designed, themed and fun to explore!

While I know it will be hard on you not to visit a park, I completely understand the budget thing.

My family has stayed at ftw without going to the parks. It turned out to be a great stay. We got to do all things there that we kept saying we were gonna do, but with the parks never had the time. Do the disney things like EWP and maybe dinner, Time will go so fast and before you know it, it will be time to leave and you will have had a great time. Oh and by the way, stay away from the tv with all the disney channels, its only a teaser.

Relax, enjoy your stay,

I can't imagine being that close and not going to the parks. Just seeing the castle would make me want to run over to MK.

On the other hand... Recently, a friend (and fellow Disney addict) at work went to a conference in Orlando and wasn't going to be able to go to the parks (I think his AP had just expired). We had many conversations about how he would handle it. I believe he went to DTD one night for dinner. He came back fine, but still aching to go to Disney.

Everyone is saying great things about the campgrounds, so it sounds like you'll have plenty to do. Since no one else wants to go to the parks ( ), I guess it makes sense not to get tickets.

But maybe if the urge gets too strong, you can just sneak off on your own? ;)

That would be my first thought...."honey, i'm going to go for a walk..." :cool1:

I think the DTD suggestion sounds good if the sneaking off won't work. Maybe even visiting some of the resorts on the monorail loop.

There is no way that I could handle being anywhere in the state of Florida and not go to the parks. There have been many years that I have only visited the parks two days out of a full week and had a great time but ,I don't think that I could cut the parks out all together. My father however, never went to the parks once the last time he was there and it didn't bother him a bit.

Personally, I wouldn't even bother staying on WDW property and not going to the parks. There is just too much temptation. :(

Hi there,

I didn't have time to read all of the replys, but I wanted to give you my take on the situation. We've been to FW several times without doing the parks for budget reasons. I don't know if you have kids or how old, but when we did this our children were pretty young, so it didn't break their hearts or anything!

Anyway, what we did was rent a golf cart at FW for our stay. That alone was such fun for our boys. We went to the animal petting area, tored the barn, rode the ponies, went to the 'beach', rode bikes, went to the campfire and movie with Chip and Dale each night and roasted marshmallows, went swimming, went to the playground, toured the campstore, rode the ferryboat, rode the monerail, rode the buses, participated in the kids activities (treasure hunts, nature talks, etc.), watched the water parade from the beach each evening, watched the fireworks each night and I'm sure a few other things.

So you can see that we never lacked for things to do! FW is a fun place to go. When we've done this for a weekend or several days away, we've never regretted it! Have fun!

This past June we stayed at POR for 3 nights and did not see one park. We, however, did other things like played mini golf, rented a pontoon boat, resort hopped, ate at CMs and just layed about around the pool. After that stay we moved onto our condo which is right outside of Disney for a week and that is where we went to Epcot and to both Universal parks only because we were meeting up with my DILs then and they wanted to go to the parks with us and their two DGDs. At first it was kind of nice to relax and stay away from the crowds at the parks, but I REALLY missed going to them and taking advantage of the guest's perks. Also, this was the first time EVER that I went to Disney and not step foot into MK, to me that is one thing I always have to do while there. So I told my DH that the next time we go to Disney (in 2-3 years) we are going to stay on the grounds the whole time and go to MK at least twice if not 3 times just to make up for this past time going. Guess what, he completely agreed with me :cool1:
