Hi. I have a question for all of you Disney photo buff veterans. I have a Rebel XT and a 2 gb card and a 1 gb card and am wondering if y'all think this is enough memory. I always shoot jpg and at 8 mp. Should I bump my megapixels down to get more mileage out of 3 gb or should I just bite the bullet and get another gb or 2? Will my shots be as sharp if I bump my megapixels down? Also we will be there for 10 days and I have no way of transferring my pics to a laptop. What do you guys think?

Ouch! Ten days with 3gb and 8mp? I think you're going to need more (much more if you're anything like me). You could reduce the image size or the quality but then, well, why did you buy such a nice camera? It seems like a waste to lose all that detail and produce mediocre, lo-res, point and shoot quality photos. Figure you'll take 1000-2000 photos in 10 days. So, buy more cards (don't buy them at the park, they're too expensive), figure out a way to transfer to your laptop (do you need a card reader?), buy a portable storage device ($100 and up), or plan to spend something like $12 (?) per CD to archive at the park (that's 640mb).

I personally like have a portable storage device because they start at 20gb and move up from there. That's a cheap way to make sure you don't run out of space. Others like to have gobs of cards. Laptops are good if you already own one but it's just one more thing to have carry through the airport. And archiving to CD at the parks can add up really fast (but I guess it takes up zero space at the airport).

Don't limit yourself and don't hobble the performance of your camera. You're probably spending multiple thousands of dollars already on the trip not to mention the money you spent on your camera gear. Make sure you have every photo that you could possibly want or you'll regret it later.

I would buy an extra memory card or two. I wouldn't lower the resolution. There might be that one great shot you want to enlarge and you won't get the best results.

You could also get your images downloaded and burned to a cd but you could save yourself some money and just buy some extra memory cards.

1. If I were you, 3 Gb card is plenty for a 10-day trip. For a 15-day trip, the most I've ever used was 2.5 Gb.

2. However, due the low-low price of memory cards, I don't see any reason not to get another 2 Gb CF card, currently sold at Costco Canada for about US$90 for a Sandisk Ultra II.

It really depends on your photo taking habits. Some people will go for a week and take only a few hundred pics at most. Others will go for 4 days and take 2000+. You'll probably get somewhere between 750 and 900 photos at full JPEG out of your 3 gig's depending on your subjects. There are a lot of great deals on media cards right now. With rebates you can get 1 gig for around $30. Yesturdays paper had some deals (ie: Best Buy, Circiut City, Office Max, Staples, CompUSA, etc...) also check buy.com and costco.com.

I'd say go for more memory. I'm going with my D50 for 4 days in less than 3 weeks. I have 3 1 gig cards and am also bringing the laptop that has a CD burner. I plan on taking LOTS AND LOTS of pics (not going with the kids so I'll actually have time to take pics of things I want to do :) )

I suggest a backup device. I used nearly two gigs per day but that was shooting and saving the huge raw files.
If you would like suggestions for a backup device post back.

My average works out to about 3gb for a five day trip. So if I were you, I would need some more.
