In November we stayed at CBR with a preferred room? We're coming back in September and have booked a regular room at POR. If no free dining is offered thinking about switching to a value resort - either pop century or all star movies. My question is going from a moderate to a value - will I be disappointed?

I don't know for sure if your family will be disappointed or not, but my family has switched back and forth many times between value, mod, and deluxe, and as long as we are at WDW, we have never been disappointed. Just be aware that a value offers a different experience than a mod--not different bad, just different. Each resort has its own charm and none of them disappoint as far as I'm concerned.

It all depends on your wants/needs. For me, I have never been a big fan of the values. I don't like the over the top theming at all. I much prefer the subtle theming of the moderate and deluxe hotels. Also, for my family, we just wouldn't work on the full size beds the values have. Queens are a bare minimum for us. And lastly, the pools are much better at moderates and I have a fish for a daughter. She loves the slides and theming of the pool at POR. These are the reasons I stick to moderates. You may not have any of the same issues and therefore wouldn't be disappointed at all. But if you have any of these concerns, I would perhaps stick with POR.

Will you be disappointed?
Maybe
You just have to be realistic and understand the differences.

Moderates
-bigger rooms, bigger beds, double sinks, pools with slides, hot tubs, quieter

Values
-smaller rooms, smaller beds, single sink, pools with no slides, no hot tub, louder

Counter services at values offer good variety and from my experiences at values their bus service is excellent as well if that is important to you.

I have stayed at POP and All Star Music as well as POR and POFQ. It depends on the trip, the price I can get, and how many days I am going. I have done long trips at both where I Have days that are not spent in the park but at the pool and as long as there is a bar, I am good. :cool1: Although the value pools are noisier and more crowded.

There are differences. If I had a choice and money was no object, then I would always stay at a moderate because I prefer the theming, the rooms are bigger, queen beds in many, double sinks, HOT TUB, less little children running around in the food court. My preferred moderate is POFQ..smaller, quaint, boat to DTD. But at the end of the day, it's Disney and as long as I am there and not here, moderate or value, it really does't matter.

Disappointment is a result of reality that does not meet expectations. If you have realistic expectations and know what you are going to get and are happy with that decision, your chances of being disappointed are greatly reduced.

I agree. And if you think you will be disappointed and go into the trip comparing moderate to value, yeah, you probably will find the differences.

However, if you think - "hey! I can try out a value, it's going to be great!", you won't be disappointed. I've stayed at all ranges of Disney resorts and I'm happy at Pop Century and All Stars and I'm happy at the Boardwalk. I just adjust my thinking before I even leave the house.

I've stayed at all resort levels at WDW. Of course I love the deluxe resorts for their amenities but more for their locations. I'm not a huge moderate fan. If I don't want to pay deluxe prices I book value. The value resorts are really fun, compact so no room is too remote, have good food courts and love the bus service without numerous bus stops. CBR has full size beds so no different from values.

My next trip is to Pop. Can't wait to head over to check out AoA when I'm there.

I actually prefer the values! I love the theming and the size. That being said, if it was our entire family going with the guys over 6ft tall, we'd need a moderate for queen beds and I'd want the 2 sinks. All depends on what you need. I find all of Disney resorts to be clean with good bus service. The only resort I didn't love was a deluxe believe it or not!

I have stayed at all levels and are perfectly happy at pop. You just need to go in with a open mind.

Disappointed? At Disney World? Is that even possible? We have done seven trips every way imaginable. Your frame of mind is the key. We are at the parks from dawn to dusk, so room really is never an issue, at least for us. It will just be a different experience, that's all.

This. We've stayed at all three levels, and we particularly love the Poly. However, we also love Pop Century and have stayed there a couple of times. As long as you do your research and set your expectations accordingly, you will be just fine. Have a great trip!:goodvibes

Thank you all for your replies! I appreciate Them all. And yes true - anything at disney has GOT to be better than here right?!?!!?

I agree, it depends on your thinking. As long as you go with realistic expectations you won't be dissapointed.
We go back and forth between staying Deluxe and moderate, and I'm never disappointed with the moderate. I enjoy both.

I've had to do this a few times to save some $$$. Honestly it didn't really bother me all that much.... I looked at it this was at least I was in Disney. I will say that I have grown accustom to staying moderate or deluxe so to stay at a value for more than a week is not something I prefer to do. This is mainly b/c for our longer stays we enjoy spending time at the resorts.

If you go into it anticipating that you will be disappointed, odds are good that you will be.

Its all pretty personal and I can't recall seeing your family composition, but IMO, yes. We started as poor college kids at the values, moved to yay, we have jobs, lets stay at mods, and now we're DVC members. During our wedding trip (yay, disney brides), we visited some of our family who were staying in Values (both AofA and ASM), and I had forgotten how small the rooms are. It made me glad to be a DVC member as I felt the rooms were bigger, more comforatble, and I liked the more 'deluxe' resorts much better than the value feel. (Although I think theming at a mod is much much nicer than the values).

But if you're ok with it and adjust your expectations, you may not be disappointed, just prepared/
