Will I be able to check in for both rooms?

I booked two rooms at POR for a family trip next month. I did it directly with Disney over the phone and the agent put in a request for connecting rooms for us. I put my SIL’s name on their room, but I paid the deposits and the balances on both. When I paid for the second room, it wouldn’t let me do it online so I had to get her MDE login and do it that way.

I will arrive before they do and had planned on setting up a few surprises in their room (drinks and snacks, a couple of toys for the kids). Will I be able to check the whole family in when I arrive? Do I need to wait through another multi hour phone call to get my name added to the second room even though our whole trip is linked and my card is already on file for the second room?

I hope they won't let you check into someone else's room.

I understand what you want to do, and it is very nice of you, but pretty sure you will need to make other arrangements.

You might have an issue because it’s your SIL’s name is on the other room. Maybe someone on here will give their experience on accomplishing this, but I feel the only way it MAY be done is if SIL calls and gives permission. Even then I highly doubt it. I know if my company paid for a room on a work trip, I would hope to god it doesn’t mean they can access my room any time they want 😂. Good luck though! Would be a fun surprise I’m sure. 🙂

If you are given connecting rooms it should be easy enough to put something in the room when they are not there. I am sure you will eat at some point after arrival so say you forgot something and go back or I will meet you at.......

If they do online check in and your SIL gives you one of their extra MagicBands, then you would be able to get into their room. But the resort shouldn't allow you into the room using your MB.

We had a trip with my sister and she had gotten her room ready text hours before our room was ready. She had given us one of her extra MBs so we were able to dump our things in her room for the time being. :)

I guess I’ll have to call and wait through another couple hours of hold music to get this fixed. I explained all of this to the original booking CM. SIL is basically the “added person” linked to my reservations. I wanted her name on the room in case they booked an earlier flight or something and got there before the rest of us.

I wish Disney would up its staffing. I can’t imagine calling a Marriot and being put on hold for several hours, but here we go.

No they will not.
At least one person from that room would need to be there.
However if you do online check in then you can skip the front desk as long as you get your room number.
If you take one of the other room's magic bands with you then you should be able to access their room as well.

Be aware that if you add yourself to the other room:
* you may not be able to if they are at capacity (most rooms are max 4 plus a child under age 3),
* and if not at capacity there will be an extra adult charge if 2 adults are already booked into that room.

I suggest either getting a MB from your SIL. Or waiting to enter the room after they arrive but while everyone is out.

Booked three rooms at GDT a little over a month ago for my company Christmas party. One for my family, one for my assistant manager and spouse and one for another assistant manager and spouse. Even though we paid for the rooms we were not able to check them in. It had to be someone who was on the room assignment.

I had 2 rooms I booked and paid for last month.
One with me as lead guest, one with my adult daughter as lead guest. I was not listed as a guest on her room. She does not have an mde account so my email address was listed on both rooms.
I was able to complete the online check in for both rooms. I got the room ready notice for both rooms. My band would not access their room.

since your SIL has an account
If you do online check in, and they’ve gotten the room ready notice, either
log in to her MDE on your phone and use your phone to open their door.
or
She can give you a magic band assigned to someone listed in her room if they have one

Good point, I’ll use their account on my phone. That way I can have things set up for their late evening arrival and deal with any issues ahead of time (I was also a bit worried about checking in to one room and then later finding out the other was in a different building or something). Thanks!
