Will I be able to accomplish this with a split stay?

I am the main planner for a Grand Gathering for three families. We put our heads together and decided on 7/7/07-7/14/07. We like the idea of traveling on Saturdays and, one of the kids in the group turns 3 on 7/8, so we wanted to start our trip before that. We plan to stay at AKL.

I called today to get the ball rolling. I knew I would not be lucky enough to have the 2007 packages available, but I thought I could look into the rates for rooms and go from there.

For 2006, the rates for value season for the deluxes started on 7/5. I was hoping to get that lucky again for 2007. No such luck. In 2007 the value season starts on 7/8. If we go to AKL on 7/7 we will pay the higher rate all 7 nights. The savings is about $400 per family if we wait the one day for the value rates. The 2006 price for a three year old with an 8 day hopper and 7 days dining is about $297. Even though the 2007 ticket and dining prices are not out yet, I can't imagine it going up more then $98! So, it seems that the way to go is wait a day. Even though this would have us traveling on Sundays, I put the rooms on hold for a trip starting 7/8.

Well, after I hung up, I started thinking--what if we split our stay? What if we stay at Pop on 7/7, and move over to AKL on 7/8? This should give us the value rate at AKL, and allow the budding 3 year old to be considered 2 for the entire 7/7-7/14 trip. Right? Anyone with experience along these lines? How about dining? Do they allow you to make a reservation for a split stay with dining and tickets for your total length of stay?

I hope this was clear, and not too much of a ramble. Thanks for any information.

But what you're trying to do makes perfect sense to me, and I wanted to commend you on your creativity. I used to think I had most of the angles figured out, but these boards blow me out of the water. I hope you can do this--I'm all for saving as much as you can! After all, it's not like you won't eventually spend it at Disney anyway, right? Good luck!

Yah, I did that the last trip. We decided to start our trip on day early so we stayed at Pop Century one night and spend the next 8 days at Old Key West. Absolutely no problem with tickets and such. They are super accomodating. Should have no problem, duder.

Well, I just called. They say they won't move the luggage from Pop to AKL. In fact, they don't move luggage from values at all. I thought I had read on here about people doing just that. Oh, the CM said we could not start our dining and ticket package until we got to AKL. :confused3

that has to be a new thing! they moved our luggage from the Pop Century to Old Key west with no problem whatsoever. I'd say go for it anyways, talk to the front desk when checking in and they will be more than happy to help ya out. Its the disney way mannnn.

I'd call back.......we are splitting our stay between the ASmo and AKL concierge. They said they would move out luggage and we put 10 day hopper tickets on the first ressie even though we are only staying there 7 nights then at AKL 5 nights. We put 2 day hopper tickets on the AKL because the CM said it would be cheaper this way (and it was) and we got the dining plan for both hotels that way...............

If your child turns three before you check into your new room, he/she will count towards room occupancy and you'll need to pay for the dining plan and tickets for him/her. This is an entirely new reservation and your new stay begins with the new resort.

Your child will be a three yr old for your AKL stay and not a two year old.
