So after much research and thought, we have decided NOT to have the Vaccine. In our day to day life, we're good. Lots of vitamins, water, clean hands etc....
Our only concern now is our Disneyland trip at ( very crowded) christmas.
I don't want to cancel, but am worried. What is everyone's thoughts about this?

was there two weeks ago..

try to touch only what you absolutely have to touch. We used hand sanitizer before we ate any meals or snacks. Wash hands thoroughly after restroom breaks and have fun.

Not getting the vaccine only puts yourself and folks you come into contact with at a greater risk of coming down with the flu.
Do you qualify to get the H1N1? There are specific requirements to qualify for it right now.;)

I bent over backwards to get my family the shot yesterday so I would NOT miss my Christmas trip to DL :santa:. Hopefully something else won't come up instead but you take it day by day

Right now only 2 of us have received the H1N1 (DD8, DD2). The rest of us are waiting for the injection to come out next month. Myself, DH and DD4 have asthma and can't have the nasal mist, and DS is too young to have the mist (must be over 2).

I wouldn't let it keep me from my trip, just be extra cautious.

Going to DL actually may have kept us from getting the H1N1.:thumbsup2 While we were away (5 days) the schools in our small community had huge absenteeism - (is that a word?). While we were there we used hand sanitizer periodically and washed well before eating and after using the facilities. To this point, none of us have contracted the bug!

The injectable form of the vaccine is now currently available, depending on your local, your medical provider, and whether you qualify...

I got my H1N1 vaccine about 2 weeks ago. NO side effects at all, it actally was easier than seasonal for me! I am so glad I did it.

DH and my 2 girls will get theirs today, hopefully no side effects for them either.

If, for some crazy reason we come down with it at trip time we will probably still go. When we get down there we will just stay in our hotel room until we feel better, I don't want to miss DL!

Our area won't have it until next month.

We are usually not very wrried about germs except in Mexico or right before we eat. But now.......
I will be bringing a bunch of wipes and plan on wiping down ride handles. We also have stocked piled Tamaflu.
I hope to get the vaccine but in Texas we are wayyyy short on supply vs demand

I was able to get the injections for the family last wednesday. We are going on a cruise on Monday so hopefully 11 days is enough for the immune system to build up resistence.

We're going to DL in 13 days, we got our vaccinations 2 days ago because we are going to DL, if we weren't we might not have gotten it (at least not yet). The last thing in the world that I would want is to get sick at DL.
I'm still going to use a lot of hand sanitizer when we're there, just in case.
I didn't really have any side effects - my shoulder still hurts a bit and my son and I were really tired yesterday, I heard this was a side effect from the vaccine.

I realize not getting may put us in harms way, however I am not comfortable with this vaccine. I am pro scheduled vaccines, we've never gotten a flu shot though. This one just makes me worried and my gut says not to get it. However I worry about DL.

I have tried and tried to get my DD the vaccine but its not readily available here yet. They *finally* had a small clinic last weekend but only 150 shots were available for our entire area...people drove for hours to get here. The paper said that more clinics have opened but I'm being told that our area will have it by Nov 14 (1 week after our trip)...none of our area doctors have it and the pharmacies that are getting it don't have it yet. So my plan is to liberally use handsantizer, wipe things down as much as we can, and wash our hands alot!

Something just doesn't sit right with me either, maybe it's that they haven't had alot of time to research side effects and that sort of thing (running backwards being one of them )
We're heading to the USA on Sunday, but apparently hometown Melbourne has a pretty high concentration of cases anyway

We just got back from a vacation, and DL was pretty packed. And its only going to get worse around Xmas time.

It was just two of us (husband and I) and we opted for no flu shots.

This is what we did:

Took vitamins with us.
Avoided public drinking fountains and drank bottled drinks only.
Wiped down the counter surfaces, door knobs, remote, refridgerator door, toilet handle, etc. in our hotel room with anti bacterial cleaning wipes.

We kept hand sanitizer and sanitizing cleaning wipes on us at all times. We washed our hands and sanitized them before we ate anything. We avoided buffets and when we ate at sit down restaurants, we made sure we washed our hands again after we ordered and had touched the menus.

There was only one buffet we went to (part of a packaged early entry deal with Knott's Halloween Haunt), so we got a the earliest seating available (basically right when it opened). If you must go to a buffet, get there when it opens and get all your food at once. You want to be the first people there. Get multiple plates of everything and don't go back, even if it means loading up your table with dishes. (This might sound paranoid, but after we finished eating our buffet and went to use the restroom, my husband saw a couple people use the toilet and then walk out of the restroom without washing their hands, and then stand in line for entry to the buffet! Good thing we were done, imagine if we had eaten after those people).

Also, try not to touch alot of the handrails while you are waiting in line for rides.

In my opinion, it is easier for adults to manage without the vaccine than children. Adults have a better chance of remembering not to touch their eyes/nose/mouth before washing their hands, etc. Have you ever watched the number of times your children put their hands in those areas, even subconsciously? You can tell them and tell them, but they may not even realize they are doing it.

We opt for seasonal flu vaccines and will jump at the chance for H1N1 vaccine because DS has Type 1 Diabetes and Asthma. We all protect ourselves for him. We have had more than enough hospital stays because of respiratory issues to suit us.

If it were me, and I was choosing to go the no vaccine route, I would skip DL. H1N1 is spreading like wildfire here (DD had it last week). It is way too communicable to knowingly put yourself and your family in a situation where you are very likely to come in contact with it, in my opinion.

Thanks everyone! I know we have to 'pick our poison'. i wish one seemed better then the other.
We take alot of vitamins, extra Vitamin D,C, and Omega's, things they recommend to boost the immune system. I'm hoping the whole Swine thing will be died down by christmas :)
We always have hand sanitizer with us, and we'll bring wipes like everyone has said. Sigh.... I wish this wasn't an issue.

It is harder for kids. We are normally a very germ conscious family. So they do touch alot less then most children but...
If my kids had any type of issues such as those i would have to get it too.

I see that you are located in SJ. Iam too. the problem here is that when people are contracting it the schools, etc are keeping it under wraps. One of the kids on my sons football team was diagnosed goes to the same school and everything do you think they told us? Nope...
Not sure what school your DD goes to but did they warn parents?
And I hope your DD is doing better!!!
