Trying to decide where to stay for the marathon. Would really like to stay at the Grand Floridian since celebrating my anniversary. Will GFV be open by then? Maybe we will do an add on or I will be able to rent a ressie.

They still have not announced. The original announcement was late 2013 but we don't know if it is on schedule. They have recently filed the official DVC documents for the resort which in the past for AKV and BLT they did shortly before announcing sales and expected opening date, so maybe we will learn something soon.

A few weeks ago I sent a message to MS asking about whether GFV might be open in November (wishful thinking...). All I got was the canned response of "it is planned to open late 2013, we are still registering it, etc."

Honestly, it was the most un-Disney-like response I have ever gotten from MS. It was so canned and unhelpful that I felt like they were saying "leave us alone, people, and stop asking."

For legal reasons, there is very little they can say until all of the licensing is complete. Don't take it personally. Timeshares are a highly regulated industry and even a company like Disney which is often considered customer-friendly has to be careful about what they say and do, particularly with regard to a project that is still under development.

As for the original marathon weekend question, I'll just point out that availability is going to be very limited in the months of the resort's existence. DVC will start with only a small number of villas available for member reservations, and add as they continue to sell points.

Based upon the filings Disney has made for the Grand Floridian villas, it looks like there will only be a maximum of 47 studios. Within the first few months of operation, there may only be 10-15 available for points bookings.

During an event like the marathon which typically draws a lot of attention, most--if not all--of the villas will probably be booked by owners. If you're planning to buy points at VGF when it goes on sale, obviously you'll have some chance of getting a room. But I wouldn't expect much to filter down to non-owners.

If the resort has opened by then, you should at least be able to rent a villa from DRC. There will likely be a small % of villas available for reservations using DVC points and early purchasers will have first opportunity to reserve those followed by all other DVC members within the 7 month window ... and we're already inside that time thru late November, 2013.

Stay Tuned! :)
