Since resorts include transportation to the parks in the price of a room, do you think they will increase room prices to reflect the increase in the cost of running the boats and busses? Of course, that is assuming they don't have a shortage of fuel to run them anyway. I wonder if there will be cutbacks in the # of busses running per day. Also, will the companies with transportation from the airport be affected also? Not panicking, just curious. :moped:

Resort room prices are set, so no, they will not be affected by the gas prices. But transportation on the other hand may very well be affected. Not good for those of us traveling soon (Sept)! All I have to say is I hope people are patient with the transportation system. We are all feeling the crunch!!

I think perhaps, the net result will actually be WDW having to offer more room discounts, as people reasses their budgets and may put off high dollar resort stays. In fact, I hate to speculate that Katrina may be the proverbial straw that broke the camels back and we may be headed towards economic recession in general.

If you are locked into your reservation then you are set in price.

Gas hikes will affect all us, eventually. If transportation costs go through the roof then it will hurt us all. Housekeeping, front desk, etc. will want a raise; because, it's so expensive getting to work. Food prices are bound to go up; hence, food courts, restaurants, etc. will go up in price.

I would assume Disney will be feeling it financially with the hurricane results plus the fact they are providing the airport transportation through a certain date (all that fuel to and from the airports gotta hurt!).

I concur. Look at what happened after 9/11. Discounts galore!! And no, the resort prices will not be going up. They are set. That is per a CM at CRO.

I agree that resort prices will have to drop, or a good deal will need to come out. I booked POP, fully intending to upgrade to AKL if there was ANY deal. Now I've decided to stick to POP and apply any discount to my room rate.

If anything, if people start postponing or cancelling their vacations due to the gas prices, incentives in the way of room discounts could be offered. Maybe with codes, maybe to locals in Florida and maybe to AP holders. You never know, so just keep your eyes and ears open

Agree. It's funny though. The average price of a gallon of gas in 1985 was ~1.90. Factoring nothing but the rate of inflation since that time, when nearly everything else has gone up in cost, the price of a gallon of gas would now be 3.37. It amazes me how upset people get when gas is doing just what all other products and services are doing...going up with inflation!

Here's a chart listing historic gas prices - you have to scroll down to the sales prices for end users. I remember it being 79 cents back in 1989.

I agree with you 110%! We are definitely headed for a recession, it's not like we had a strong economy pre-Katrina. And, I do think that Disney will be forced to open up more room discounts. Maybe not immediately, but sooner than one would think. Remember back in 2001? The economy was tanking. Disney had good room only discounts and pretty un-packed parks. We went twice that summer.
