Keep in mind that this year the Disney VISA holders did NOT get a special rate when they came out in August....and there was much bellyaching by them about how they were passed over and most had been holders since the beginning, and blah blah blah. Well, of course, NOW we know why they were passed over, but there was a LOT of griping back then, and now they're rejoicing.
Like most discounts throughout the world.....the best are given to "members".....grocery stores give discounts if you have their membership card.....gas stations give a few cents off if you use their credit card.....even the local city recreation department gives a discount on it's ballet/soccer/swimming lessons if you live in that city. So why shouldn't Disney give special discounts to those who are Annual Passholders, or Disney VISA holders, or DVC members??? Is it really that different from the other examples I cited.......actually it is, because most of those other discounts are FREE....grocers don't charge for their cards, the gas station credit card doesn't have an annual fee (neither does the Disney VISA), and maybe living in that particular city isn't fee, but you didn't move there just for the discount did you? But we're talking about Disney were very little is free.
So those that want to maximize their potential discount power should perhaps consider joining the "membership" of Disney.....get an AP, get a Disney VISA (it's free to apply, no annual fees, you simply have to use it once a year to not have it cancelled (so buy lunch and pay it in full once a year)), and join DVC if you can afford that one!
Another perk of the Disney VISA is a special members only meet at greet at Epcot....and I can't tell you how often people complain about that, when frankly, there is a better variety of characters just waiting in the next building to the south. But it's something that they can't have so they complain. If it's that important get the card.
Just like people ordering Disney vacation planning DVDs think they're upping their chance of a PIN code when they probably know more about planning that the DVD ever did, lol. Maximum your exposure to Disney and hope that you are rewarded for that membership. I swear I'm on every mailing list for any Disney product/website out there....I have a shelf of those planning videos going back a decade I'm sure, and yet I've never gotten a post card or email with a special number just for me. Yeah, it bugs me, but it doesn't seem to slow me down, I'll order another planning DVD and sign up for another email list, and hope next year it works!
Is it fair...no, but neither is the fact that I can't join the Club 33 at
Disneyland....and I've wanted to eat there my entire life since I first discovered it's existance in the 1970's! I'd gladly take out a second mortgage.......ok, DH may divorce me if I did, and I would miss him, but...it's Club 33!
And hey, how about all those discounts you get because you work for this or that company, but I can't get even though I am a loyal money-spending customer....hey how is that fair. I stood behind an employee at a retail store and watched her get 30% off several of the items that were in my basket....did I even get a thank you for paying more? Nope.
So...have you applied for your free Disney VISA card yet???
