I am not sure about resort pools but I do not think the water parks will open this calendar year.

If they do open I would think slides will be a 6ft protocol. Capacity limits in effect as well.

I don't know if they WILL be open. I think they SHOULD be open. Resort pools anyway. It's probably the safest place to be. The chlorine kills the virus and it's outside in the open air and sun. I'm from PA and even our health secretary said the water is fine, so come on in. And we've had some of the toughest measures in place. Incidental contact for 2 seconds with a kid who's been soaking in chlorinated water isn't going to transmit anything. The pools being closed would be serious consideration for me as to when I would reschedule my trip (which may or may not get cancelled next week, around Thursday)

No doubt IMO Disney pools will open.

We just got back from the beach-hotel pools were open(not that crowded-people were "self distancing").

Our local Water Park is going to open with the "new normal"----reduced capacity/distancing between loungers/distance markers in slide lines/etc.

If the Resorts are open, the Pools will be open for sure IMO. (with restrictions)

What about when people spit out the pool water that has gotten into their mouths or farmer snot in the area of the pool? Farmer snot: use finger or thumb to cover one nostril and blow air through unblocked nostril. This clears pool water and other nasal bits from nose.

Gross to think about, but the pools are heavily chlorinated. I've honestly never seen anyone do that in a pool at WDW and it's gross and disgusting virus or not- but it's not dangerous as far as being contagious.

I was really thinking the patio/pool deck surrounding the pool. Disney isn't going to be cleaning that area every 10 seconds. Little kids could crawl right through it. Over chlorinating the water isn't going to keep the virus that is airborne from coming in contact with people. I love everything about Disney pools, but there haven't been any studies showing how to keep these areas safe.

The patio/pool deck? You mean the place where people walk?

There hasn’t been any studies proving the air can infect you either.

Stimulated studies that don’t actually reflect normal settings yes, but even those they can’t prove it can actually get you sick

And just so you know, I do assume it’s airborne anyway but trying to be positive

The pools will have to be capable of holding the required capacity percentage of guests staying in the resort. If they can not guarantee access to the pool when considering the high cost of the resort, Disney will have a guest relations nightmare at each resort. If they believe they have to cap capacity and announce it in advance they will have widespread cancellations which in turn will make them opening a very hard economic equation.

I do not get upset much regarding Disney because as I say often "Disney does not owe anything to their guests". However, if I woke up at a Deluxe resort and went down to the pool to only be rejected I would have words with Disney and be looking for a refund.
You do say that often. Evidently the pool is the the thing that matters to you. For others, it’s other things. That doesn’t mean they think Disney owes them anything....except what they paid a ton of money for. Same as you.

Aulani already has a stat posted that says experiences may be unavailable, and I’m not expecting any discount or compensation offered for that. I’d expect the same from the WDW resorts. I can actually cut them more slack right now than in normal operations. But my trip was planned for next year, not this year, anyway.

@cgattis You misread my post, has nothing to do with me or my desire for a pool. If Disney can not guarantee access to the pool to their guests they are going to have massive cancellations. If they do not inform people ahead of time that their pools are closed they will have a guest relations nightmare. You can not reject people at the pool gate and not expect them to want a refund. My comment was a hypothetical, if there was no warning ahead of time. The parks disclaimer of some experiences may be modified or unavailable is not an umbrella to claim pool capacity limits/closing. Again no knowledge ahead of time would be a guest relations nightmare.

It's easy to take the high ground when it's all theoretical...

Since we don't know IF the pools will actually be closed, I'm am closing this thread before it gets further into an unnecessary discussion that goes around in circles like the mask debate
If Disney decides the pools will be closed I'll reopen it
