Hi, I was wondering if you think disney could or would go into the point rental business? they could pool together points from members and find renters. This would help sales as new buyers could always generate some income from unused points. Im sure they know other individuals making $3.00 per point on the open market. The only negative for disney I can see is that it would take away from there own cash reservations but arent they seperate entities?
I was a previous owner of Marriott Grand residence South Lake Tahoe and they had a rental program for the owners.
Your thoughts

The problem is that we do not know how much Disney is already making off points when they exceed the breakage limits allowed in the budget. Disney may prefer that the points expire. Also we have no idea on how many points Disney has to rent off through exchanges. They usually get these pretty cheap based upon my experience with trade out for the cruise.

someone asked a few years - Disney say no.

you could ask now. if you have too many points you might consider selling some.

I'm looking to buy some MORE points in the near future.. why would I want to rent them to anyone???

For Disney to actually do this, rent individual members points, and combine them with others for reservations...assuming the individual members would want some sort of payment, would likely be a logistical nightmare for accounting, and would probably increase dues for everyone to pay for that accounting.

Why would Disney want to get rent points when they make more money by booking the room to a non-member. If the person likes the accomidations they may then join DVC, otherwise I think they make more money by booking the room as a cash reservation.

Many other companies do this. However, the return would likely be only about maint fees at best after commission.

They have trouble renting some of the cash rooms they have now. They had to practically give away some SSR and OKW rooms during free dining last August/September. They would probably do it for something like $5 a point, which is what they give on the trip insurance.

They would rather you not be able to use those points.
