Will Disney ever cruise in Asia?

Just thinking, with the new Shanghai Disneyland opening soon, a cruise could cover Hong Kong to Shanghai to Osaka to Tokyo with Disneyland excursions and Great Wall day trips from Shanghai. Disney is huge, especially in Japan, and there are also direct flights to Hong Kong and Tokyo from the US.

My interpretation of the captain's answer to future cruise destinations during a Castaway Club reception.

It started as...Asia is a large market and can have several tie-ins. He went on for a few minutes about it but I'm not interested in it so I didn't listen closely.

I asked about the possibility of a Bermuda cruise and was told in about 5 words - No.

When leaving the reception, several of us were talking and thought that Asia was definitely on DCL's radar. Will it evolve into sending a DCL cruise ship over there? Who knows but it seems like they have discussed the possibility and have kept it on the table as a viable option.

This is only my interpretation of the captain's answer. He did not say it would happen but he didn't shoot it down. Unfortunately, I'm looking at other cruise lines for my Bermuda cruise.

Thank you for the reply and information. I don't understand why it's not there already? I hope you get your Bermuda cruise. Disney Cruise Line seems to really be expanding with new ideas and port cities over the years. They need to have a few more versatile boats (maybe an in between Magic and Dream size) to cover some different parts of the world and offer up fresh itineraries.

Fresh itineraries would be nice but they seem to like the new cruisers. They probably spend more money than a repeater like me.

They just make so much on that Bahamas itinerary. That will not change. I'm just getting into cruising myself. Going on just my 3rd Disney cruise this December to the Caribbean. The previous two were both Bahamas. I had the Mediterranean one booked, but I had to cancel due to family emergency. I moved that deposit to the upcoming one in December. They have more and more in Europe, but they are really expensive. I think they are moving to a busier, more global schedule and they will expand the fleet soon enough.

While a Asian cruise itinerary is quite possible, it is not likely until the next class of ship comes out. Since we still have not heard anything official about the next vessels in is likely we wont see those vessels until 2020 or later.

Thank you Skipper. I expected to hear more about the next class of ships by now as well.

I do know the ship yards that Disney used for the current 4 ships have a 5-6 year wait right now. Disney will eventually build 2 new ships but it will be a while. @Tonka's Skipper estimate of 2020 might even be a bit too soon.

Lol...I agree, that is why I said 2020 or later!

However there could be canceled orders or other yards, maybe even here in the states, there are 4 or 5 yead able to do the job.
