Hurricane Adrian is due at the Bahama's this weekend and so am I on the Wonder. Can someone tell me how bad it has to be in order for them to cancel. Safety is my first priority. :confused3

Here is a few suggestions. Make sure DCL has all the telephone numbers they need to reach you. Home, work, cell. Also, stay in touch with the internet. If you are traveling to Orlando the day before, find out where you can have access to a computer opr stay in touch with someone who does have access.

Last August, many on this board were ahead of everyone else with info.

Good Luck!

Also, they may not cancel if the storm is only affecting the Bahamas. They can sail around a storm.

It is more likely that your itienrary may be changed. As long as Florida isn't effected it is very unlikely that the crusie will be canceled. Speaking as a veteran of last year's hurrciane seaon, Dreamer04's suggestions are excellent. We found the most up to date information came from watching these boards.

Think good thoughts, a lot can happen between now and Sunday with a hurricane. But be flexible and look at it as an adventure. Though I can't believe we alreay have a full fledged hurricane.

Thanks for your suggestions.I will try to keep in touch with DLC.I am leaving tommorrow morning for WDW.I will be thinking of this as an adventure or as my DH is saying "Our Griswold Family Vacation".Need pixie dust please! :wizard:

Stay calm and don't panic. My MIL called all week that Ivan hit FLA and then as Jeanne was approaching last year. She kept wondering if she should still cruise. The ship will weave its way around any hurricane or rainy conditions. If any thing your boat ride maybe a little rocky, but I doubt it. Exchange cell numbers w/ fellow cruisers so you can stay in constant touch w/ eachother. Have a great time! I am so jealous!

Looks like current predictions are for Adrian to be just a tropical Depression with sustained winds less than 39 MPH over the weekend. That will be easy for the Wonder to avoid. If you're sailing on Sunday, my guess is NO PROBLEM but the above suggestions are still good.

Have a WONDERFUL time.

Hey CM MOM,
Is your daughter on the Magic or Wonder these days? Wondering what the crew thinks of the 14 day adventure too.

JJSmama, DD is on the Magic and the crew is very busy and working very hard but they are also enjoying the firsts that are happening on the Magic. I'm sure most of them will find time to take a look at the canal tomorrow. The extra sea days, including the day through the canal, mean more work for the crew since all the guests stay on the ship.

Got an email today and she mentioned the "southern most the Magic has been" and seeing the mountains along the Venezuelan coast. That really interested her since we lived in Venezuela the year before she was born.

The crew is also saddened when there is a tragedy that affects a guest since their job is to make everything MAGICal.

Thanks for asking.

The BEST thing you can do is to contact DCL throughout the few days before the cruise and up to the day before. DO NOT count on them contacting you!

During last year's hurricanes Disney did an excellent job posting frequent updates on their website.
Having said that, there were posts on this board from folks upset at what they felt was a lack of communication.
I'm out here in California, and monitored the website for fun during the hurricanes, how anyone could say there was a lack of communication is beyond me......it was all there on the website.

As someone who was on (well, I should say was supposed to be on since we had to cancel AFTER GETTING TO FLORIDA), don't count on communication from DCL. They were pretty horrible all in all. That said, this situation is different in that the port is not expected to be affected.

My advice is the same as most others who LIVED it.....best updates are on these boards NOT through DCL. The CM's were uninformed and gave different info to different customers. We were very confused by their miscommunication.

Easiest to swap cell numbers with your cruisemates from your cruise meet board and have access to this site!!! Then you can make your own assumptions as to what will happen.

Having said that........I don't think you will be effected to much! As allears said they will just go in another direction. DCL would NEVER put you in any danger.

Have a great time,

If you want to know what's really going on....

go to the NOAA web site and look at the marine and tropical forecasts

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/tafb-atl.shtml

Typcally if a ship (not just DCL) can get in and out of the loading port the cruise will happen...althought ports of call may change or be canx all together....aka extra days at sea. (My Jan trip on NCL found us in Cozumel vice Cayman when the seas were too ruff for GC)

Last year, when Canaveral and Orlando got whacked, Canaveral and many ports on both coasts of Florida were shut down by the Coast Guard while the damage was being surveyed. If a storm knocks out the aids to navigation (lights, markers and buoys) the port must be closed until enuf of the infrastructure is restored to make navigation safe. There can also be hazards from floating debris. If the ports are closed the logisitics of geting all passengers home from an alternate port (say New Orleans or Miami) must be bad enuf...getting the departing folks there would be nearly impossible I'd imagine.

From what I see on the wx maps right now, I wouldn't worry about Adrian in the Bahamas....but anything can happen :confused3

Based on the latest radar map (here), the storm is much less organized than it was before it hit land last night. Of course, if it moves back into the Caribbean, it could strenghthen again, but I'd agree that it's unlikely to impact Sunday's Wonder cruise.

On another note, it was nice of the storm to move out of the Pacific before the Magic got there.

We were on the Wonder cruise in September that was had to go to Mexico because of Hurricane Jeanne. We were very grumpy when we got on the ship, because being Floridians, we were hurricaned out last year. And I had done all my planning for Nassau, not Cozumel.

We ended up having a blast, and they added another day to our cruise! It was weird being on the boat, watching CNN. The hurricane ended up hitting just south of Port Canaveral, so we had to go back into Fort Lauderdale. But if we had been home, and we lived just north of Lauderdale, we would have been sitting in the dark, in a hot, shuttered house, waiting for the hurricane to pick its path.

Being on the Wonder, with a hurricane in hand (the drink!) was MUCH more fun. I say, like an earlier poster: Consider it an adventure!
