Will Disney allow it? An unofficial artisit....

6 Years ago I met a mouse. I visited Disneyland on vacation with my best friend and her family. I didn’t know it at the time but that experience would come to change my life in a very important way. Some people call it a little but of pixie dust or feeling the magic. What ever you chose to call it, I left a different person. My imagination had been sparked like never before. All of a sudden Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy and all the other cartoon characters became as real to me as any person (albeit in a strange land called the imagination). The only way that I could figure to get these characters out of my imagination and onto something that I could physically touch and see was to put them onto paper. An artist was born.

Now I want to plan a trip to Disney World but I want to experience more than just rides and a fun dining experience. I want to make this a special trip, I want to experience Disney for what I know and appreciate it for the most, the art. I want to go back to where the inspiration began, where the boundaries of imagination and reality are best challenged, and I want to take my art with me.

All that I really want to do is to find a place to sit and let my imagination go wild and quietly sketch for a little while. All I really need is a medium sketch pad, a few charcoal pencils and a sharpener ( a problem with security?) and a bench seat. I’m not trying to sell anything, I don’t intend to draw attention away from any attractions or other people experience. I don’t want to be confused with any artists from the “official” Disney or anything like that. I simply want to have a personal experience in the place where I found my inner artist.

Does any one see Disney having a problem with this? My biggest fear is that I will be mistaken for trying to sell or offer something to other guests and that I will be asked to stop what I am doing or worse leave. I know that Disney would never tolerate any one trying to capitalize on their own property and I am worried that this might be their perception. Let me know what you think. I appreciate your thoughts and comments!

I don't have any advice for you, sorry. However, I just wanted to say that it has almost been 5 years since I feel in love with the mouse at Disneyland. Since then, I have become obsessed with anything and everything Disney. We have visited WDW 4 times and planning our our 5th. We have bought into DVC. Isn't it amazing how one visit to DL can change your life?

Good luck to you and I hope that you can follow your dreams!

How about near the pool or beach at one of the Monorail resorts, maybe one with a castle view?? Or at DDT?

My son sat on a bench at Epcot and drew the counties from across the lake. No one said a word. He has a small draw pad, pencil and sharpner he took in the parks everyday. He also went to the main art store at Downtown Disney (don't remember the name) and showed some of the artist on duty his pictures. They were all great and gave him some pointers. My DS is only 11 but is very good. I wish I knew how to attache some of his pictures.

Good luck,

Tracy

I've seen others sketching in the MK. If a CM asks you about it, just explain what you are doing. I don't think you will have any problems.

I don't see any harm in it. In fact, I think it would be fascinating to see someone sketch. There was a man in France at Monet's Garden that my mom and I were watching and he was an amazing artist.

However, I recommend choosing wisely where you set up shop. Definitely nowhere around a pool, nor where a large group of children are (for instance, stay out of TT and FL). CMs are trained to keep an eye out for, well.. unwelcome guests if you catch my drift. Otherwise, have fun and don't forget to post your work on here!

if you look around youll se others just sitting and sketching rides, buildings, boats..etc...if you can take a picture of it, i wouldnt see why you cant draw it.

You're a long way from home, soldier! Just wanted to add my thanks for serving our country. I can't imagine that you would have a problem sketching at WDW. Good luck, and come home safely.
