I am leaving in Sept. It has been a looong time since I have flown. Does Delta send my tickets in the mail, or how does this work?
Thanks,
Jen

Airlines do not send you any tickets. You are given a confirmation number, which serves as the record of your ticket and that is all you get. You can check your reservation online or by calling using your confirmation number. You use that 6 digit/letter confirmation number to check in online up to 24 hours in advance. If you choose to wait to check in at the airport, all you will need is your picture ID.

My first flight years ago where no ticket was issued made me nervous. I must have called half a dozen times to make sure all is good. It is.

If you booked Delta online, they should have sent you an e-mail confirmation. That's all you get! No tickets to lose!

the E-mail confirmation (there should be a separate one for each person on the ressie). I'm just so anal, I need paperwork in hand!!!!:thumbsup2 You should see my little packet, copies of every step of the trip, in order, stapled together. As I get through each step, I fold it over so the next step is right on top!!! Flight, resort reservation conf, ADR Conf #s, Sea World on-line tickets, return flight. Silly I know but I'm old and like the feel of paper!!! :rotfl2:

Make sure if purchased online you print off the confirmation Ive had issues before with the ticket number not being attached or something and by looking at that sheet it was easily solved in under 20 seconds! :) Plus its nice to have your itinerary to reference.
24 hours before you can print off your boarding pass online or you can go to the airport and print them out there at the kiosk or with a travel agent. I'd reccommend if you have not already looked at your reservation on the internet (need conf # and first and last name) and check your seats and make sure you have seats with those you are travelling with :)

I always take a print out of the confirmation from the airline ... a couple years ago on United when we went to the airport for our return flight home, the agent at the United desk said we had canceled our return flight. Luckily as we had the hard copy of the confirmation and he was able to eventually find us in the system ...

Make sure you watch your flights. When you booked, you were given a confirmation code. Go to Delta's website and enter that code to make sure they haven't changed your flight times, seat assignments, etc. Do this every day since you are leaving soon.

Then 24 hours before your flight time, go to the Delta website and check in for your flight. You will have to indicate how many bags you are checking. If you pay for them in advance it is a little cheaper. Print out your boarding passes. Don't wait to check in at the airport on the day of your flight. If they have oversold your flight, you could be placed on standby or be bumped. I have read that this is sometimes done based on the last passengers who check in.

For your return flight, you need to check in online again and print your boarding passes for the return flight.

When you get to the airport: If you are checking bags you need to go to the counter to give them your bags. If you are only using carry-on bags, you can go straight to the security checkpoint with your boarding pass.

Since you haven't flown in a while, make sure to read about what can/can't be in your carry-on. Delta's website will give the specifics, but basically anything in liguid/gel form that in in your carryon bag must be in containers that are 3.4 (?) oz or less and all of those containers must fit within one quart-sized ziplock bag. Each passenger is allowed one ziplock bag. This bag must be removed from your carryon and placed in the plastic bin at security.

You cannot bring drinks with you on the plane unless they are purchased past the security checkpoint. To get around this rule, you can bring an empty water bottle and fill it at a water fountain past security. We bring individual lemonade packets to add for flavoring. You can bring any food you want, as long as you don't bring things that are in a gel (like pudding, jello, jar of peanut butter). We have found this to be really helpful when traveling with kids, since drinks and snacks never seem to come fast enough on a plane!

Thanks so much everyone. I thought I had read that they don't send you tickets, but wanted to make sure.

At World's End, that was very helpful. I have been reading about what I can and can't take, so hopefully I will be able to pack the correct way! It can get confusing though, since I haven't flown in such a long time! Oh, also I have been checking my flight often. So far so good. They have only changed our flight times by a couple minutes here and there.

Thanks again!
