For Thanksgiving week, 2006. How is the best way to avoid borrowing points from the following year? Not too familiar with rent, transfer, or whatever the other options are. Help?

You could go over to the rent trade board and ask to have 20 transferred into your account but I'd suggest you seriously consider borrowing them. Unlike borrowing money, borrowing points doesn't cost a thing. Even if you borrowed all of your points every year, all it would mean is that on the last year of your contract, you wouldn't have any points.

Just borrow...that's the story of my life! I have just about borrowed all of my 2007 points and i have 452 points as it is! Thats what getting a GV for a week next summer does and hoping to get on the member cruise, lol.

It costs nothing to borrow, and you have the points to use them. I look at it as a pre-paid vacation, and if that means I have to borrow, I do. Some years we have to borrow, and some years we bank. It usually evens out in the long run.

20 points isn't much, I would just borrow it. Keep in mind once points are borrowed they cannot be returned to their original use year and cannot be banked. That's why I try to avoid borrowing heavily. I did borrow 3 points for my trip next week that I had to cancel, so those 3 points are now hanging in limbo, they have to be used by March 31 (April use year). But it's only 3 points so it's no big deal, I hate to think if they would have been 100's. I probably would have rented the reservation instead of cancelling it.

If you're thinking about renting, why not just borrow? If it turns out you need the points next year, you can just rent them then (or, as others have mentioned, borrow).
